Ok, long time Gpl`er here but have been away from it (and sim racing in general) for waaaay too long so I`d like some pointers regarding getting Gpl up and running again if that would be possible. I know all the info I`d need is probably in the forums here but there`s is a great deal to go through so a rundown of what`s all needed to get back behind the wheel would be very much appreciated.
Here are my rig specs in case needed for any help:
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 OC 3GB
Intel i7-4770K @ 3.50GHz
Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 16GB DDR3 1600MHz
Seasonic M12II Evo 750w
Corsair Hydro H100i
Graphics drivers: 385.41
Sound: Realtek HD Audio
OS: W7 Home Premium SP1 (I`ll be upgrading to W10 quite soon but still on W7 for now)
I`ve installed Gpl by going through the Easy Installation Guide. Many thanks Stefan.
So at present I have a working install of Gpl. No Mods installed. A working GEM+ v188.8.131.52
I`ve got my wheel/controls all working - G25. GPL Shift in use.
What I`d like to know.
Which 60fps patch is needed? I think I`ll mainly be doing offline against the AI. I may try some online when (if) I can do a reasonable amount of laps without putting the car in the hedge.
Rasteriser is OpenGL V2 but I don`t see my resolution, which is 1920x1080 in GEM+ There are options for different resolutions but not 1920x1080. If I start Gpl with the gpl.exe and not through GEM+ it shows 1920x1080 in game. So I think I may need new rasterisers. Would that be Nigel`s New Rasterisers v2.5?
FFB - At present the wheel feels very heavy. Are any FFB patches needed. I think there was/is one by brr? I have my G25 settings as follows:
Degrees of Rotation - 900
Overl Effects Strength - 100%
Spring and Damper Strength - 0
Centering Spring - 100%
Are these values ok for Gpl?
In GEM+ there`s an option for "Patch Carset For Carsound" do I need to tick that and are any files needed for it if it is ticked?
I think that`ll do for now as it`s already a wall of text, sorry about that.
I`ve already read through some threads/posts but quite a few of the links in those threads are no longer active so any help on the above would be very much appreciated.
Lastly if this is posted in the wrong forum accept my apologies and move if needed.

For offline races with AI, you should live with 36fps, as the 60fpsaiV1 does not work well with ai's speed and behaviour...
Online 60fpsV2newmod is used for 60fps.
Carsound patch is obsolete with GPL version 1.2/3
I use brr's FFB2 patch with the settings of the readme!
The native resolution is not shown in GEM, but you can set it later in the game options
I would look for Lee's "no letterbox patch" and "tire bug fix" ...
To avoid troubles I would stay with W7 as W10 made lots of them !!!
Ah, the wheel settings:
100% Centering Spring is crazy! just a little (10-20%) if needed !!!
GPL uses a rotation of ~ 420° so if you want it synchron take this and in game set steering to ~ 10

My G25 wheel settings are:
Rotation 560° with Steering ratio in-game around 9:1 to 10:1
Centring spring = 0
The "GPL uses a rotation of ~ 420°" Cookie mentions is just the graphical on-screen steering wheel movement. Although the on-screen wheel stops rotating there, the front wheels keep turning if you use different numbers.

Thanks for the reply.So the 60 fps patches are really just for online races. Ok. No need for that right now then.I seem to remember from the past being able to set my native res in Gem+ but maybe I`m wrong then.
So there`s also no need for any Rast Hack patches...I can set my native res in game (not through Gem+ so I`ll maybe just have to do that.
Will track down those patches from Lee.
On using W10, I`ve talked to a few people who seem to have no problems with GPL and W10. Anyway, that`s something for further down the line.Yeh, I know 100% center spring is too much, I`ll try your suggestions.

I use a Rotation of 900 degrees for other sims, rF2 for eg so I guess I`ll just have to change the DOR for each sim I drive then.
I don`t have the graphical steering wheel on so I`ll try your suggestions and see how I get on.
Time now to go and track down some updates for the cars and tracks.

Ok, reading the readme for the ffb2 patch it says:
"For best results, use with the 60fps patch which already reduces ffb latency and improves ffb accuracy by updating the forces more frequently."
So therefore I should use the 60 fps patch even though for now I`m only doing offline?

For racing Ai 36fps is best.
For Ai with 60fps there is this:http://srmz.net/inde...402
"Latency" is the time it takes to transfer forces from tire patch thru the car's suspension to the steering wheel.
brr's patch eliminates the effect, which could otherwise be tuned to driver preference in core.ini.
So some might consider the patch is not an improvement and is not "realistic."
Others like it.

Thanks for the link, I`ll maybe give it a try just to see how it goes.
I`ve also noticed in game there`s a slider in Controls for Steering Linearity - Linear - Non-Linear. The little button is in the middle just now, should it be set to Linear or Non-Linear? What exactly does this do? Another thing I`m sure I used to know but can`t remember now...

As I understand the graph of steering linearity function is changed by the slider to appear like a "V" when far left and more like a "U" when far right. It has something to do with how wheel reacts when it is near the center of its motion.
Some wheel users set it a few clicks from far left.
Tune it to your preference.

I`m (slowly ) getting to grips with updating GPL again. Man, I downloaded a lot of stuff in the past and although I have it all reasonably well organized I`m finding I have a lot of different files for the same tracks/cars so it`s taking a lot of going through and installing/un-installing...
Anyhow, is it always best to install a track update into a "clean" original version of the track from the GPL CD? A lot of updates seem to say this in the readme but then others don`t...
Should that also be done for car updates?
Also, I seem to remember culmone67 did some updates for GPL? I`ve googled but any links I`ve come up with are dead. Anyone know where they might be?
Are there any track/car updates you guys would recommend? I have the Multi Season Updates, Monaco Rocks and of course Spa 67 but if there are any recommendations any of you have it might save me weeks of going through everything and a lot of installing/un-installing...

Tracks with Multi Season Updates are final so no need to look further, for some tracks I took an alternative asphalt if it was too dark...
A good adress to look for excellent track updates are Thomas Lächele's and Jacksellers sites...
