Is there a texture which determines this, or are they part of the car model itself?

To be clear, this is the car from the1969X mod (C44), not the original 1969 mod.

As you can see from the attached, I've painted a new air intake with shading and want to get rid of the old ones.  Is that possible?

Great job but in this case I don't think it's possible, only you can change the old shading, the physical modeling is the old model ..... so the optical illusion work has to be very creative.

Thanks.  That's pretty much what I figured but I thought I'd ask.

Out of curiosity I looked at a car skin I'd done using old model P139 from the original 1969 mod and it didn't show those duel air intakes, so it must have been something added to the .3do between mods to improve the car shape.

Look for the obrmblac.mip in the c44 dat.  It is a transparency for the wheel arches/nose and has the shading for the top vents.
