I think motion capture would be quite hi-tec for this kinda project. Basically what you need to do is to rig the driver model (attach bones to it), then rotate everything in its correct position (driver sitting in car), then you just record the animation moving/rotating those bones and adding more clips to the animation. And this all is controlled with some of the vehicle physics parameters and animation scripting. It really isn´t as much work as it might seem :)

I see, that makes sense! Starting to look pretty good!

The hand seems to be in weird angle... But anyways the driver has got some kinda stringback gloves there :D

I´m adding many many many trees to the scene. Mainly using few generic tree textures atm.

Looks like something that takes way too much time to make for something that serves no real purpose other than make the game easy on the eyes. Or isn't it as much work as it might seem?

As I use a wheel (Fanatec CSW)to race with, on every Sim I race on, I always go and remove driver animations (Wheel and driver arms)in the games graphics settings, so for me anyway it gets in the way, and does not look right with a wheel....I think most people that race with a wheel would remove driver animations...But there could be people that like racing with a gamepad ;) Nice work though, I really would love to try this out :)

Thanks.

Of course I will add the option to remove the hands if user wants them. ;)

I really should concentrate on one task at the time. Should have been adding those trees to the scene but Ive been playing around with AI cars atm. They act kinda stupid atm (more stupid than my driving skills) but at least I have something raw done. I will keep you guys posted..when I have something to post :)

Sounds like the AI is on par with modern racing sims ;)

Here´s a link to new video.

AI is using the same physics as player but has got more grip atm so they keep following their path better and not spreading around the track when entering the corners. AI drivers aren´t too challenging atm although my keyboard driving sucks a bit (even though the player physics are set to easy for testing purposes).

Still lots of things and features to do..

Change log for v008:
- Added raw CanCan-car for player
- Added raw AI with raw obstacle avoidance
- Added details to the track scene

What's a cancan car? Does it pop it's hood while in pits? ;)

Btw. After the video I added the driver some more character (character joint in a matter a fact) since he seems to be quite stiff and excited in the video.

Now it behave a little bit more natural. The problem is that I should get the hands locked to the steering wheel so I could give it even more natural behaviours :D

Oh and have to update the road surroundings a bit in the future. Now it seems to be too flat from time to time.

Here´s a video about the added movements for driver body. (I think that red car was stocking on me in the bushes)

And here is the video for the CanCan car that was released earlier (for those who don´t want to scroll up the earlier message):

:)

Nothing much to tell but I´ve been fighting with race position indicator lately and have been "rewriting" the scripts for lap timer and so on. Now my race pos indicator is working somehow good (still a little buggy) so I might start updating the track details again. Also should start optimizing the graphics so this game could be played with some "older" computers :)
