Something piss me off today...
i try the Brabham BT20 on Rfactor2...and my first impression was...why the car looks so Ugly?...i love this car...i mean the real one...

Posted Image

I´m wrong or the car is totally out of scale???? (and the tyres....)

Why model something wrong now (in hi poly) when there is a great model in GPL (in low poly)...Why go back and forth in the sim industry all the time???

but that is not what piss me off...what piss me off was, that i deside to search for a bt 20 video on Youtube because the car on Rfactor sounds like a Ford Escort....but then surprise!!!
The first 80 videos are Rfactor captures, showing the ugly model!

The danger is...that one day, kids will see that kind of things and will believe that the real cars looks like that.

If someone want to share his own impression please comment!

LOOL the wheels look like chocolate doughnuts :hysterical:  Is the 1st picture taken from rFactor 2 ??? I can't stare to it more than 5 seconds

I haven't tried rFactor 2 yet but i thought i would be something great. Clarkson's face is very appropiate to this :)

Heap! that was my first impression face!!!! But try it! the last demo now it´s free (but you can´t drive the marvellous Brabham)

Not all are bad impressions, i like Mónaco and Spa even when i think both are slower in game than in the reality. That makes the Vertigo level go down.
But also like the wheater and the tyre derformation and the FFB. Maybe when more modders get involved thing will be more acccurate.

Note the difference of how wide looks the real banked curve...you can put 5 cars side to side beetwen the yellow line and the rail...
That will be ok if they don´t talk about how much they like the movie and the classic cars...(from the ISI home page)...

The banking looks wide enough - its just the line which is in a different place.

No David, take a couple of laps in the track, then do the same in GPL Monza 10K, then take a look at some historic pictures...and the you will see that there is a problem...or ther cars are to big or the track too narrow...

Anyway i feel Rfactor2 Emotionless...

The car model looks okay but the tires are mediocre to look at at best. They are completely the wrong size and the textures look like they were made in the previous decade. Also, there is something amiss with the exhaust texture. And the picture looks rather dark and contrastless. The driver's head also looks odd, both the helmet and the goggles seem to be one size too small.

That was my first thought when rFactor 2 was released :) These games includes a few cars and tracks, they need something more, just like happenend with rFactor 1.

Both are right. The line is wrong ... and the width too, even if you look them with the same angle.

I'm afraid this is a common problem in modern simulators. Even in modern videogames. You're used to GPL, which is a great game itself and gets better with the mods. Then you try some of modern and they have a lack of feeling. GPL has "soul" (hope you guys understand this).

I saw this and the rain efects are great but i also think the track should be a bit wider.

Spa was a narrow track - the GPL version is too wide.

i was driving in a wet spa last night...Rfactor2 spa is interesting but for my taste very bumpy...bumpy all the time, you feel like ina rally car...
About the inmersion , its a complex matter. Fighting against the AI in GPL is very challenging, also you can have the chance of "be" between your idols, even  when obviously are not. The consistency of the AI is very important.
Rfactor2 its no easy to drive, for me...but at the same time there is a strage feeling, some kind of randomness in the way of the car moves. In GPL or GTL (for me best turing cars simulation) when you take a corner with 4 wheels drift over control, you know that you are driving right...and you smile. In Rfactor2 i'm not shure if is me, the car, or the holy providence... :)
Hope you know what i mean!

Maybe this topic will interest you: http://isiforums.net...ith-the-Brabham

In terms of track accuracy, i would be very careful before deciding that gpl tracks are 'gospel' - a lot of them (even fan-made ones) are not completely accurate.

In terms of the Monza banking, it looks about the same to me - just that the line is in a different place. It is a bit hard to tell due to the different angles and camera perspectives though.

With Assetto Corsa's release there should be some good comparison there, considering they have laser-scanned the banking so that the proportions should be correct.

For what it's worth, in terms of the historical tracks, to me at least, it seems they have done a pretty good job in RF2, certainly a lot better and more accurate than the original GPL tracks (Monza is much, much too wide in gpl!).
Of course i am no expert, this is just the impression i have got.

In terms of car models though, i do share some concerns. The mirror housings in cockpit view for example look rather strange in the matra / tecno cars!

Yeah but what awful bumpiness effect! There is no way a person perceives racing like that in reality, (nobody I know.....) and just as lens flare sucks!

At Rouen, the original pits made by Papyrus was too wide, but Steffen W has fixed that now in the latest Rouen Rocks version. It looks great :) . The rest of the track is pretty accurate as it is/ was.
