Welcome to the release of the 2020 GPL Demonstration Mod!  It's our special gift to the GPL community on this New Years Eve.

Our hope is that the demo will not only showcase GPL's modern features, but also encourage new drivers to join us.

The demo is also a tribute to the original Papyrus team that developed GPL back in 1998 and the many modders, too numerous to mention here, who have kept this racing simulation alive and vibrant for the last 22 years.  Thanks to all the talented people who created GPL and the mods and tracks that made the 2020 Demo possible.

The demo is based on the previously released Legends of GPL mod, but includes updated graphics for cars and tracks.
The included cars are the championship driver's car from each the of the mod years and the iconic 1967 Lotus 49 which Graham Hill used to win the driver's championship in 1968.

1.  1955 Mercedes W196
2.  1965 Lotus 33
3.  1966 Brabham BT19
4.  1966 Lola T70 MkII CanAm
5.  1967 Brabham BT24
6.  1967 Lotus 49
7.  1967 Matra MS5 F2
8.  1967 Ferrari 330/P4
9.  1969 Matra MS80
10.  1971 McLaren M8F CanAm

The included tracks are:
1.  Road America 1971
2.  Sebring 67
3.  Monza 10K
4.  Zandvoort

Although the cars use updated graphics, their physics are the same as their original mods.  For example, the '55 Mercedes W196 uses its physics from the '55 F1 Mod, .etc.  The mod uses a special patch to ensure that each car's physics is identical to the original.  As a result, each car performs and feels the same as always.

The demo is a complete GPL installation and can be used to install full versions of all previously released mods.

Be sure to view the Read Me instructions (available in 10 different languages) before installing the mod.  The mod includes an automatic installer program, but you can manually install instead if desired.

The demo has its own website and promotion video courtesy of Stefan Roess.  Please visit it to read more about GPL, this demo, and other valuable information.

Wow, you guys never cease to amaze!!   Well done.   As Pedro said this is a wonderful product to introduce the scope of GPL in a really unique way.

The mind boggles at having all the different mods available at the same time ... brilliant!

Happy New Year all.

Frank

PS wish I could have the 55 Lancia ...

Many thanks for a job well done.  Great way to introduce GPL to new comers and an excellent vehicle to use as the start of a new mod installation.

Roger.

A big thank you for everyone who has worked on this, good way to take GPL to the next decennium!

Out of curiosity, if you use this demo how would you later add the original Papyrus cars? (Assuming you would have found a disc/iso ofcourse). Would it require a completely install instead of the demo?

Does it means that's also a comfortable and useful way to use AI's track cameras replays and observe quite correct differences between cars( then, globally each carset) speeds for the 4 tracks, than by trying to get a figure in the mind ?

Or the demo2020 driver.ini is set to get alls AI's cars on the grid quite at the same speed ?

Please say "YES" to the first proposition,  and I will install it tomorrow to get my New Year best present !

Yes.  The AI cars perform according to their original physics so you can see the differences.  However, each car uses a different driver and since each driver had his own capabilities, the car performance will be affected too.

Many thanks to you Lee, and the whole mod team, for continuously adding and contributing to the GPL community! :)

Apart from the stalwarts and GPL dinosaurs, we need an influx of newer and younger simracers for sure, to keep this sim alive ;)

Thank you Lee and all who brought this forward and have made another gem 😁👍🏁

I've posted the video and links on Twitter, as have GPL Recently.

Hope that, along with this new demo, pulls in lots of new racing members 🤔😁

We can also imagine that this 2020 Demonstration Mod, if made online compatible by someone later,  wld  give birth to very entertaining handicap races, with an alien using the Mercedes W196, for instance, against an average ranked with the McLaren M8 F ( a bit caricatural, but you get the idea ) :snow: :Meter: :fireworks1: League servers wld need only a minimum of two participants (easier than a full grid, nowadays) , and one entrant to watch and manage the start. Not hard to set up !

Am I dreaming or the Igor software/ servers can't accept the Mod team special patch implement?

The demo works fine online; however, the player has to join using Direct IP.

We ran into a problem getting the demo to work with IGOR.  I can't remember if it were a server or client issue or both, but it's probably because the demo doesn't include all the original GPL files.

We decided it wasn't worth trying to fix as it's a demo.  If the newbie gets hooked on GPL, he can install other mods, then use IGOR to race online.
