Alu 300
Fiberglass 400
Primer + paint 150
Bearings 260
U-joint 80

And the list goes on...

Does not include the 2000+ I spent on the space and tools.
Does not include the ~1200 I spent on the commute to and from the workspace.
Does not include the launchparty which is scheduled for nov 20th 2011

Also does not include the Bodnar wheel which is another 2,500

Geez Remco... that is a load of dingo my man. 7985 dingo`s...

2,500 for a Bodnar?

Won`t be having one of them for a while then

Hope I get an invite to the launch party though. :clap2:

Well, now that Remco's rig was even mentioned by Jessica L. , must be the highlight of one's life, no? ;)   :drunk:
I had no idea what you were talking about, Rudy, but I found the Sim Racing Week you're referring too.

Remco, not only is Jessica impressed by your work, she also likes the smell of plastic. And that's an actual quote!   ;)

They're not for sale

There are less than 20 in existence, Leo builds them only to pre-order from racing teams and manufacturers of commercial full-body motion simulators.
Lucky for me, my buddy Niels has worked with some teams on their simulators and that was my way in.
Naturally, Niels has one too so I know what I'm buying. After trying his I couldn't NOT order one. Everything else would be unworthy of a place in the P34.
One of the reasons it's not commercially available is that it's complicated to set up. It's not even a wheel package, it's really just a motor, a power supply and a USB board.
I'm going to need Niels to help me set it up.

It is a powerful unit which reaches maximum torque really fast. What that means is that the FF ceiling is much higher which increases the fidelity of the effects. A G25 set fairly high will provide maximum torque when you hit a kerb but the force you feel when hitting a wall won't be any higher which of course it should be. Leo's wheel doesn't show this limitation.

To illustrate a faint impression of the power of this thing, check it out in this vid.
What you see is the motor. That's not the housing, just the bare motor. The wheel bolts straight onto the shaft.

The sensation of driving is just so much better and pretty taxing as well. I took Niels' experimental Group C car around the Nordschleife for 5 laps and I gotta tell you I was as knackered as I am after two heats of karting! There is no going back  :clap2:

Wow!

Those Bodnars certainly do sound like quite impressive bits of kit and I agree, if you can afford to have one then nothing else would do for such an awesome rig as your P34.

Like the update too btw...

Okay the bodywork is done so now I'm concentrating on the cross-sections and this week I've done some work on the lateral support bracket. It complements the A-frame by adding support under the driver's calves.

Not done yet, but it looks so damn fine I thought I'd post it anyway :)

Damn fine piece of work. What mfg method did you use? I'm guessing you welded several formed pieces and ground the welds. However you did it, this old engineer is impressed.

Thanks Vince! I must confess I cheated a little bit making this. I wasn't able to set the aluminum as you'd normally would because I lack the equipment. Additionally, I can't weld 1mm aluminum with my stick welder so I needed a workaround. It's made of three aluminum pieces fused together using fiberglass underneath  :P

Update!

Today, I finished the seat! What a milestone
The seat's all done now, secured to the frame and I even managed to get the first coat of paint onto it.
It came out better than I could have hoped. Sometimes, I amaze even myself

Also shown is the finished lateral support bracket, still needs to be fastened though.
I also created and installed a little drain in the bottom of the tub, see the previous post for a shot of the real thing.

It's been a good week  :)

Gorgeous, Hitman  :clap2:

(I hope that you do not get carried away too far and not use it until you have made a replica motor to sit behind you  :D )

Looks fantastic Remco. I tip my hat to your efforts.  :hat-tip:

With the work you've done so far, you might as well make a complete car.   Maybe you can find a Cosworth at a good price.  :clap2:
