Hello Jim!

Thank you for that insight on your track editing!
Very interesting.

Vertex shading plus hard shadows looks best to me.

Cheers
Stefan

I think the greatest effect of this lovely addition will be seeing shadows transit the car.   This adds a realism that's been missing in GPL while available in other sims.

Glad to hear that it's such an easy fix too ... hate to have it extend the target date!!    Remember ... I'm 80 this August!!    I want enough time to set at least one world record LOL!

Just a few more screens of how the final hard shadows will display.

Most application issues resolved and clipping largely under control.

Shadows have varying lengths / widths.............  over track, and varying heights over associated walls, fences, straw bales, advertising banners;....under bridges, etc.

Not sure how applicable this vid is for 4 wheels but the corners should point in the same direction as Jims version in the end. So it may be of some use to us learning the track.

That's crazy! This isn't a track. It's racing at insane speeds on the street. No runoff. Almost anywhere you go off you're dead.

All my respect to those who race it in real life.

Just a very small update.

Have put in many long hours and made steady progress on this track in the past few months, despite encountering many irritating issues to resolve in each "micro environment".

I had hoped to finish this year, but despite being close to that goal, I will probably not achieve it.

A couple more months is my best current estimate, based on the jobs still outstanding.

Now that the track routing is essentially past the fine tuning stage, I have spent the last two days re-doing the AI files, removing all the artifacts that inevitably crop up from driven Laps converted to LP Files. Then it was a case of adjusting AI behavior in the troublesome areas where AI continue to have accidents, :drive1: to eliminate most of those, while still allowing plenty of aggressive racing, and overtaking.

I have run countless AI races of all lengths and damage to analyze their behavior, with acceptable results now I think for such a complicated and fast track.

The attached screen shows an average result for a  GP race with full damage.

This has the typical rate of mechanical failures for a race of such length [ 7 Laps and 264 Miles ] but only two "Accidents" or driver errors.

I cant get it any better than that, so that will have to do.

Seasons greetings to you all.

Jim
