Help!

My g25 H shifter is jumping out of 1st gear into 3rd. Does it on a couple of mods. Just started doing this. was fine during an earlier session.

Any ideas? Was 'stuttering' a bit while in 2nd gear the last few days ... and now this ...

Sounds like it might be a mechanical issue inside the shifter.

Possibly:
One of the pots is loose
A wire is loose or about to break
One of the pots needs to be cleaned (least likely)

Be careful if you open the case as there are several very thin wires, and putting it all back together, you have to make sure the wires are routed around the posts so that they aren't stressed.

Pretty sure a wire is loose in there. Fooling around from the top of the shifter by removing the boot, now it won't shift to 1st ,2nd 5th or 6th. It looks like i'll have to ope he unit completely to access all wires ... the shifter moves ok but only gears 3 and 4 light up.

Sounds like the left right potentiometer has a loose or broken wire. While you have it in pieces best check the other pot for connection issues too.

That might very well be a potentiometer problem.
I'm not too much of an expert but I'd disassemble it, clean the potentiometers a little, make sure when re-attaching that they're in the correct spot, and the reassemble. Worked for me a couple of times already on my G27.

I'm down to the final shifter cage removal. I can see the 2 pots and their connectors. All looks good connections-wise ... Onto the cage removal to have a look at a small pc board and connector on the bottom of the shifter body ...

So far, there are 14 pieces and 20 odd screws disassembled .... to get to the shifter body ...

Its all dust-free in the shifter housing. Only 'dirt' is the graphite lube ... Does that lube tend to foul up pots?

Found a tiny wire broken right at the connector on rear pot!

Yikes! That is tiny. How to disconnect the connector from the pot?

Is it possible to strip such tiny wire and re insert into connector?

I had the same problem. The connector simply un-plugs from the pot.
In my case, the wire broke off right at the end of the pin, and there was a rubbery sealant around the end of the pins - so I couldn't get to the pin to re-solder. It's not clear from your photo whether you have the same issue.
To fix it, I managed to find a replacement pin for the pot socket among some old PC spares (a processor fan power connector pin type XH - I think. Search eBay for 'XH connector'.). However it's a tricky job cutting away the rubbery compound (using a sharp scalpel) to extract the old pin from the socket (a small tang holds it in). Once that's done it's straightforward re-soldering the wires to the new pin. I used some silicone sealant to reinstate the stress relief afforded by the original rubbery compound. Not pretty, but it has worked well!

I don't know what the connector is like but think that if you can get it off,  solder the wire on to the connector, or get it soldered by someone else if you can not solder yourself.  Less liable to break again.

Ah! That's why the top of the connector looks so messy! It does look like some kinda goop is all over it. Many thanks guys. I don't think I have ever worked on such a small scale even working on guitars and long ago on slot racing cars. I may need far more experienced electric tech help to get that wire reconnected.

I will study the old pin removal issue a bit more today and rummage through my tools to see if I have anything that can work on such a small scale.

Repair status report:

connector removed ok.

I did break off another wire. But I did note the positions earlier.

Now to re-solder wires to terminals and re-assemble connector.

A friend will drop by tomorrow with good modern small job soldering gear.

If you cannot fix your problem, I have a defective G27 shifter that I can ship to you, to reuse some parts to fix yours maybe. I think both G25 and G27 are very similar.

Repair status: Too small-scale a wiring job for my friend. I will reach out to pro electro repair guys in the area and start also looking into getting the tools and parts required to do the repair myself, as this may be less expensive. Finding these is easy once I know what the name of the components are to Google for the right thing. (ex. Dunlop connectors)

Thanks for the offer Daniel! In fact, I could cannibalize my old MOMO pedals for their pot connector but that seems wasteful, but yes, donor shifter or pedals would be one way to fix my shifter,

I will probably make the racing this week but not with an H pattern shifter, which in the case of the Opatija hairpin breaking zones, is a crying shame!

Logitech have replied to my help request with the referral to their tech support but also with a referral to some kind of sponsorship application. I will check that out as well.

In large part, this is a 'planned obsolescence' issue and parts and wiring that are of the most delicate type, probably mass produced and assembled but also these days it is an ecological and green-thinking issue. Many solutions would make landfill of such computer peripherals at the 1st breakdown but that seems immoral at worst. So, getting max longevity out of such equipment is not a bad thing.

On the other hand, the mechanical side of the Logitech G25 shifter design and its other electronic components is pretty cool and designed for pretty tough use at an arguably affordable price.

I did solder right onto the pot's terminals and had to re-fix several times as wires would break just above the solder point. I finally was able to see the shifter in action by only partially disassembling the shifter (just opening the shifter without removing the shifter cage.) I could see the wires bending when moving the shifter so i tried soldering the wires perpendicular to the terminals and re positioning the wiring harness so that the wires did not bend right at the solder point and this repair has lasted a good 3 weeks now.
