When using automatic transmission, is it possible to override the inputs with my own? I'm playing with a PS4 controller, and use automatic because I find lifting when shifting up to be too hard to get right, but when using auto there's no way to engage the clutch manually (like say at the race start), and there's no way to override the auto with my own inputs (like shifting down earlier in the '55 cars to slow the engine and avoid brake fade).

Alternatively when using manual transmission, is there a way to allow the game to lift off the throttle on up-shifts for me? Modern racing sims do this, but is it possible in GPL?

As far as I know it is not possible.

I've used a gamepad for a long time and lifting between gears is just something you'll have to get used too in GPL. It may be awkard at first but believe me after a while it becomes second nature and you don't even have to think about it.
