Thank You Dave, I read that book in the early 80's  :grumpy:  and just went and had a look and I still have it, right next to Lauda's biography called To Hell and Back, which was next to a book called Ferrari's Drivers, all long forgotten about. I now have to re read that bit you have posted and then I will of course keep reading the whole thing. I am glad I hung onto those, I threw out heaps of stuff over the last few years but I always keep the Motor racing stuff, I even have about 6 years worth of "Grand Prix International" magazine from the late 70's to mid 80's  :book:

Do you have " My Years With Ferrari" by Niki Lauda ? Both Lauda books I picked up
around 1982-1985 during his amazing comeback with McLaren.
Glad you enjoyed the post Burnsy  :hat-tip:

I got that book as well, and I never quite understood why Lauda thought Crystal Palace was a "nightmare" to drive (if they had kept it open for business). When I first got out on the GPLEA version, given Lauda's rep I was expecting something like Pure Hell.
Not such a hard track at all though.   Apart from some tricky brake zones, I quite like it in fact.

Maybe that is where he ended up upside down in F3 or F2 ? I think in the other book
I have from Lauda there are some pics of him and car with wheels up somewhere
in England during his early days. :hat-tip:

Stewart looks like he is "bottoming out" in that first pic.Sparks
are flying. When I drive the 69Xer's here I do that on landing even
with ride height of 3.5 to 3.75 in. :hat-tip:

Michel-that first photo is TAKING OFF ?

Dave,

yes , that 's rather a sparkling car after bottoming !!

the intersting thing on the third pic, is, like described by  Lauda, it is the right front wheel  that touches the asphalt, first !

I don't think I have read that one, must track it down because I do remember a friend was reading it and told me it was quite good. My "Art and Science" book is titled "The Art and Technicalities of Grand Prix Driving"  Same book, don't know the history of the different titles though.

Thanks Burnsy, they are great books

Do you guys know if the GPL cars get damage from these type of landings at the
flying places ? I haven't tried any Pro settings yet-I normally race in Intermediate
short for GP Mods and Intermediate long for Sportscars. :hat-tip:

The real cars must have withstood this to last the race.

Here is Hailwood's aftermath from his crash mentioned earlier.

Too much speed & the car flies across the track into Hailwood's crash site.

I can't nail it over 92 MPH at takeoff-need to practice :P

It is also somewhat tricky to enter the take off zone straight & not
in a drift from the corner above !
