In the last days I have tried to release an idea I had eight years before. Now I have began to release it.

The idea is: If I watch a replay I don't know where is the action. I have to know at which time which driver had an collision, hard fight or something.

The pactch changes the focus to the eciting scenes during watching replays.

That is awesome, can't wait to try that out.

That oughtta save a lot of times making summaries of racing videos :)

Brilliant stuff Olaf. This is a great idea. :thankyou:

I tried it on a couple of rpy`s and it really shows a lot of promise. Obviously very busy and a lot of clipping back and forth bteween cars in the start  but you already know this and have means to calm it down a little so two thumbs up for the beta version. I had bad graphics rendering in the mirrors of all cars in both rpys. Other than those two things it worked just fine and once the field opened up a little you could clearly see the potential of this patch. Good job Olaf.

Is it possible to make a version where camera angle changes with the shift between drivers? Or randomly on an interval or something similar?

I plan to change between TV1 and Onboard view in dependency from the distance of drivers, maybe
<10metres = TV1 view
>150m and <300m Onboard view
>450m = TV1 view
If the distance between this values the view stays like it was before.
And the focus should be set at the driver behind in all cases, because so you see both cars and the mirrors are not so important.

But like I said I need some time to do that. And the first step after a short holliday will be to calm the director...

There are certain tracks where the tv1 and 2 doesnt work very well if the placements of the cameras are off so that might need to be considered. Onboard is probably the coolest to watch for viewers but variation is nice as well. The "nose" angle with rear view could maybe be useful also.

In either case a great initiative and idea Olaf , looking forward to seeing the development of this. Have a nice holiday and a good summer. :siesta:

This is brilliant. A suggestion if possible, as I understand the patch functioning right now it wouldn't pick up car going off on their own. Would it be possible to include this as a trigger for a camera change? If someone wrecks on their own surely you'd want to see even if no one pushed them off the track.

Thx Olaf!

It sounds like a very good tool!
This will be great for creating GPL movies (when you want show some action) and should also be very helpful for league admins to oberserve crashes.

I will test the next days.

Olaf I have tested your "Replaydirector" with two replays of former GPLRACER league online races.

It`s brilliant. Great work! :)

The only thing I noticed that the camera sometimes switches within a millisecond from one car/driver to another car/driver and back again.
That makes it a bit stressfull to watch.
Would it be possible to set a minimum value (maybe some seconds) the camera has to stay at a car before it can switch to another car?

Thanks all for interest.

I think next week the first step of the patch would be ready. It will be with manual camera choice.
Some weeks later I think I will prepaire an additional version with camera changing too.

I'll post the patch under Misc - so my other patches don't feel so lonely.

Ready!
Two versions at choice. The normal version has considerably less focus jumps than the BETA, the _conservative version lesser, still less.
The mirror bug is fixed.

You find the patch and the readme with details under Misc.
