A while back the topic of updating the 04 demo to include the advances made in the past 12 years came up and several people indicated their interest. So with some delay here is a thread to do just that.

So my initial idea is to take the 04 demo which is technically fine and package it in a similar way to the GPLPS installer. Without the need for a CD to install and way less options. Ideally I'd want to run the installer and have GPL running with v2 rasterizers and 60fps. I know the later involves installing GEM but by now GEM should come with any GPL install IMO.

So post ideas, suggestions and most important a way to pack the demo so it installs with as much hands of as possible below.

Hi Michkov !

I have allways a copy from the 2004-demo in my archive. I use this for some helpfullexperiments.

I found on F1Legends from Jackseller a new 2013 demo:
http://www.f1legends...nstallation.php
(look at the first link in the text)

I dl the 2013-demo but not try it for the moment, so i can not descripe what is in. Unlucky i did also not understand the french text in this forum.

As far i know, all work from Jackseller was well done before. So try it.

Greetings

Achim

I wouldn't have the 60fps as default, but an option. Most guys will race the AI, and we know the AI are goofy at 60fps.

Also, including the Historical V2 would be nice too if possible. It might get more new guys racing the 67 F1 cars. Although the download would be huge, so maybe not.

I wasn't aware of the F1legends demo, I'll check it out thanks.

Good point on 60fps. Regarding mods of any kind, the point of the the demo should be to get a working baseline version of GPL on modern systems. So instead of including I think a pointer to SMRZ together with a mention of the mods/tracks etc should do. I'm thinking of a pdf that shows what GPL can do that doubles as readme.

1. On its own website, similar to other major releases like mods, with a links page
2. Ready to click and race on-line
3. Include Lee's no letterbox, sound, and weather patches, or at least Carsound Patch with select sound files
4. GPLEA 67 F1s
5. GEM+
6. Long track patched
7. Language choice
8. Similar to 1.07 Installer
9. Very comprehensive detailed readme

Bernd,

Maybe you can make an installer for the Historical V2 mod? I think the install will confuse most who are new to GPL. I think it's important for those new to GPL to get to drive the new physics for the 67 F1 cars, or they just skip them, and turn to the easier to drive mods. Which is a shame.

Pete, I have to check if it's possible.
I checked the F1 Legends installer. It's good but only in french. We could be a multiple language installer for a demo. If I recall it the demo could include Watkins Glen and Monza because there had been 2 different demos, one with Watkins Glen and one with Monza.
To package it with GEM & iGOR we would have to create an "outside" install dialog to create the "first driver" or using GEM would provoke an error. Sure I can do this.
But readme in txt and pdf (for graphics) is something I would "outsource". If you guys are fine with the 1.07 installer I would use the cars, tracks (WG and Monza) and other stuff from the 1.07 installer package and would add only the GEM/iGOR stuff. If there's something to correct tell me. If someone else will do it I have no problem with it :)

Aren't we past the Monza and Watkins thing by now? It would be nice to include all 11 tracks in 1.07.

All for it but than you are releasing GPL as free/abandonware not as demo. I dont know if anyone would care given its age but it's a step up from just polishing the Papy demo.

I agree, all original tracks should not be included in a new demo simply because the software is now over 15 years old.

For a new demo to get new people started with GPL, I think Bernd's 1.07 installer is a great starting point.
I would add the ability to install without the cd & I think adding a running GEM+ to a new driver's first install might help them with the mods & various patches.

Include the patches:
Letterbox
head movement
dirt-gear (olaf's)
weather
pit-stop
all 60fps patches needed for the various mods

I'm happy to help out where I can, I speak french & german (native english) if anyone needs any translation help ... not that there aren't many native speakers here ;)

Just to help me a bit I have attached the following options of the 1.07 installer. The dark grey ones can be removed. The light yellows should maybe have other defaults. For sure the listed patches are not there because they are needed mostly for GEM. Which I need to find a smooth way to incorporate :)

If the rest should be more or less just be installed choosing the defaults and hence maybe removed from the options fine by me. The less options the better :)

To add further. I checked the GEM&iGOR installation code and would refuse to create a package of GPL & Gem&iGOR. Especially because you can remove GEM&iGOR through the programs/apps depending on the Windows version you use. However, I would like to add a "user/car/resolution" page so that a new player would be created.
It would be useful for hints about the various player.ini settings which are "important".
If Stefan wouldn't mind he may would like to create an installation walk through adopted for this demo and GEM/iGor ... :)

Hi Bernd :) the "3d Rims in Mirrors" by Ydna do not work properly for every car due to wrong 3dos. I thoroughly tested it and you can see it in my Ferrari post here http://srmz.net/inde...c=10586&hl=rims
I would suggest to not include that patch unless it is fixed or reworked ;)

Are we trying to get new people into GPL, or give them a demo of a game that can hardly be found anymore. GPL is 18 years old. Who is going to care at this point?

It's the GPL community that kept GPL alive. Who would buy GPL now and run it as is?
