This looked awfully familiar to me as I'm nearly finished a 250F as my current scratch-build model.    Believe me, I've studied this suspension for a long time.   What threw me here was the disk brake!!   Had to check my Haynes manual for the 250F (yes, there is one!) and it says 2 British privately owned cars mounted disks.   These were the Owen Organization and Moss's 55 car.   The change to disks also required the use of Dunlop steel wheels instead of Borrani wires.

Anyway, good pic!

This very suspension has been the BANE of my modeling so far, together with the 250F's very body ^^;

I'll post some pics later, stay tuned :)

This is the car: I'm trying to make a Monaco '55 version, still some details missing. I've based the model on the REVS Institute's photos, Haynes's 250F manual and Veloce's "250F in focus" :)
The links go straight to the photos I've saved in the Google Drive: sadly IPBoard doesn't recognize the extension GDrive uses and so I can't directly post them in.

Very very nice Lord.
Beginning to appreciate these 50s cars more and more.

Amazing there is a Haynes manual.

Lovely job there!!   Hope this will appear in the mod some day.    Ever considered doing an update on the Lancia D50 ... hint hint.

My own efforts are in making a real world model of the Fangio car in the 57 'Ring.  Body and suspension are finished and making the cockpit components now.   Still a couple of months away but I'll maybe post some pics when it's done.

Oh, you're knocking on an open door with me about that, mate! ;)
Only thing that completely throws me under the bus is calculating the suspension stiffness for the rear: according to the formulas, it should be around 300 N/mm, but that's wildly off. I wonder how in the mod they managed to get it right :)

Also, I don't know jack *beeep!* about how to put a model in GPL and making it work: I got word that I need to use 6000 tris maximum, but that's about it. I know nothing more :/

Oh my!!   That D50 is quite delicious!!   So this is just an exercise in graphics for yourself?

Here's a link to my own 55 Monaco D50.

PS  Sorry to hijack your thread Transit! Are you planning on more "Id" pics?

Not really an excercise, but more like a "I'm sorry for the mess and the delay, have some goodies to make up for it".
Basically, Porsche amicably got wind of the mod I was making (the 1958 one for rFactor) and while we had a good chat about it (I was talking with a PR representative over mail) they praised the quality of the models and the details, especially of the 718RSK, but they told me that the car couldn't be in the mod even in a "mockup" (like Coventry or Murasama *wink wink* ) state because of company policy. I've told them that I wasn't going to make any cash out of it because the cars aren't "mine" as far as the design and likenesses go, they appreciated the honesty and the ethics, but still the policy stood.

BUT they told me that, in case another mod with a Porsche should be made, just call Stuttgart and present them the work done up to that point: the new upper spheres at Volkswagen want to reverse the modding policy because they see it as free advertising as good as it's made well, but that is taking some time because of some resistance in the Porsche's Board of Directors.

So, after all of this, I decided to make up for it with a couple of new cars as an "Addendum" to the mod both because it's not fair to have less content because of technicalities and also because I personally love those cars :)

Oh, and about your model... completely scratch built? If it weren't for the build log, I wouldn't have believed you at all! The milling and woodwork is gorgeous! :D

@ Transit apologies from me too, didn't mean to co-derail the topic. However, your reference pics of the 2509 are really great! I'll see if I can dig something more from Doug Nye's books :D

Glad they finally come around to understand that! Good quality model and physics, free for everyone to be driven, massive free advertising! Hope this kind of good sense comes also to other manufacturers as well

Wow, interesting stuff.   Glad they sounded reasonable about it .   What possible harm could be done?

Glad you like my D50 thanks.   The 250F might be even better!
