One question I do have is why are the sliproads at Reims all corrupt and mangled? Is this just due to an incompatibility with Thomas Lächele's update or what causes it?
From what you have all been saying, I think the freezing problem is nothing to do with online or 60fps but the way that GPL loads data.
Do the freezes only last a second or so and then the game continues as normal?
This problem happens consistently on the first lap of an event (did your friend skip qualifying or disconnect in between that and the race?).
Two examples of this that I know of are:
The exit to the second Lesmo at Monza.
Some way down the straight behind the pits at Nürburgring. This only happens with super high res content installed and I think I found what causes it - the mercedes building has GIANT textures in the update (which is amusing and unecessary given that they are really blurry and just upscaled).
So I think you can elliviate the problems somewhat by reducing the texture sizes that the game is having to load. You could also see if a different rasteriser helps?
I'm not sure what causes the problem at the second Lesmo.
Either way, it only happens on the first lap so don't worry too much.
You could try running a different graphical update and fixing it if it bothers you a lot. At least it is predictable so that you know it is coming.
