Greg, thanks for the answer. I assumed it would be covered somehow, and if it wasn't that is the method I would have used myself.

Once again, this looks like it will be a Mod that is worthy as a full simulation in itself. Hopefully taking GPL into a whole new decade will bring in some fresh fans, who just want to drive the 55 cars.

. . . . .   But I have a question: Does the movie show all the cars in the mod? I was hoping for the Jaguar D-Type.
The D type arrived at the right time to race these, but it was a sportscar ( GT ) so ran against other sportscars,  The Merc. Streamliner was an F1, with full bodywork added.  Other teams also tried enclosing the wheels, but none were successful.  The rules were eventually changed, so that F1's had to be open wheeled. :)

Ok. Thanks for the explanation. The look of the Streamliner always confused me about the rules for F1 at that time.

To the whole 1955 F1 team.

This is absolutely great!  Thank a bunch for all the work.  It was worth the wait.

Missing from Stefan's great movie is the dash of the Vanwall. Perhaps intentionally?

I had no intention, it just happened.
The team has seen the beta versions of the movie before. ;)

The Mercedes W196 was introduced to the Formula One series as the fully-enclosed 'streamliner' in 1954 at Reims.  As it was difficult for the drivers to negotiate tight turns often marked with hay bales or barrels, Mercedes produced an open-wheeled W196.  The streamliners were only used at Monza in 1955.

Now, there was a version derived from the W196 in 1955 that had a 3 liter engine, two seats, headlights and such.  This was the 300 SLR.  It was used at the Mille Miglia, Dundrod TT, Targa Florio and the ill-fated LeMans.

Hi Stefan,

Yes, you're right, but it really didn't occur to me until today. :)

But as maddog says, it's best not to show everything at once. :bgrin:

Fantastic work on the latest GPL epic promo!!!   :thankyou:

Now I'm excited, couple of questions

What's with the Vanwall shifter? Function reallife and in the sim

Front engine simulation meaning what exactly? Different weight distribution, etc, I have to say the video looks a bit doctored with the smoking engine after it blows.

Yes, the brake fade simulation is very well done.  As we can't 'feel' the brake pedal reaction to too much hard braking.... we need an indicator to warn of impending doom.   Brake management becomes a whole new factor in race planning.  Along with saying this, the perceived feel of tire adhesion vs speed is another truly remarkable simulation.  :)

Can we turn the brake indicator off if we wish so?

What does conversion beta mean in regards to tracks?

The last one is a bit OT but have you found out what the blade like structures are behind the front wheels on some cars?

Keep up the great work, looking great so far.

Looks and sounds awesome! I especially liked the Connaught, and the Mercedes Streamliner, since Karl Kling always was my favorite 1950s driver.
THANKS TO THE 55 MOD TEAM !!!

Lets, see what I can answer.

Vanwall shifter.... I believe that you mean the Connaught preselector gearbox.  This is a steering column shifter that only visually resembles the actual mechanism.  It does move (along with the driver's right hand) in the correct manner.  Rather than go into much detail on how a preselector gearbox operates, please google that item and search for some cool YouTube vids.  :)

Front engine simulation correctly models the weight distribution and any engine blowups.  As to the escaping radiator steam.... that was just a video enhancement for the movie.  :)

We will supply an alternate brake fade indicator file, which has no color for fully-working brakes.  You still get yellow for fading and red for dangerously low braking ability.  Believe me, you would not want to drive these cars without any indication of your current brake state.  R/L drivers had the ability to 'feel' brake pedal firmness....  and probably 'smell' hot brakes!

As regards to the tracks shown in the movie... some are fully finished 1950s tracks and some are beta (not completely transformed) '54-'55 track conversions of already released tracks.

The horizontal 'blade like' structures behind the front wheels are deflectors to keep rain or kicked-up dirt from being thrown back onto the driver.  :)

Thank you for your questions... and your kind comments.

Thanks for that extra info Greg!  It's really interesting, especially when we compare the technology of 1955 to the more modern mods that we're used to. I'm really looking forward to finding out what GPL's first front-engined mod is going to feel like to drive. With the change in the centre-of-gravity, the narrow tyres and the dodgy brakes, I think I might get the same feeling I had back in 1998 when I first tried GPL and spun 180 degrees at the Monza pit exit! "Hmm, there's definitely no hand-holding here, is there?" :D

Hi Saiph. We believe that the "feel" you will have will let you know the limits of your vehicle. The rest is up to you :D

The mod looks surprisingly good given the very dated nature of the game, but the one thing that's always impressive is how atmospheric and well made these GPL mod presentation videos are. Really superb job.
