My wish would be for all the standard tracks to be at the same level as Spa 67. A monumental task! Imagine the Nurburgring at Spa67 level!

This is a bit of a digression but I've seen a few comments discussing the future of GPL in terms of how many of us within the existing player base would still be interested in GPL in say 10yrs time? I've often considered this and I think a few will still play in small leagues (much like today but much, much reduced). Sadly, we may have to accept a natural end to the wider community. When the time comes, we should be glad it happened rather than be sad that it's over.

Good reason for a 2018 World Cup Grand Prix Legends birthday celebration.

Is simracing growing?

Joe, are you talking about the Bobble Head patch?   It rotates the external view of the driver's head in all three axes.

If you are talking about the what the player sees in the cockpit view, I don't have a patch for that (well actually I do, but testers didn't like it so I never released it).  I believe you can use GPL Glance to do that though.

Lee, I do mean the Bobble Head patch.

Joe, then please explain in more detail.  As I said, the patch rotates the head in all three axes, not just one as you thought.

Ok. Maybe I was expecting head rotation akin to rfactor's.

GPL glance does that. It links the cockpit view to the angle the wheel is turned. So the view rotates toward the side the wheel is turned.

Yes, from the driver's POV. From what Lee said, this is also true from the spectator's POV although the lateral head tilt seems to be quite subtle. I'll go watch some more replays.

I've been racing on the computer since 1994 or 95. I rediscovered GPL in 2011. I've been driving nothing but GPL since then except for 2 or 3 weeks of looking at GTR2 mods. I'm 50 years old. I might still be driving GPL in 20 years. In almost 7 years, I still haven't learned to drive the Lotus and Brabham as well as I'd like. There's still plenty to keep me interested and entertained by GPL. The biggest problems for GPL's continued use might be hardware incompatibilities we'll see in the future.

So far, so good.

Maybe in the future, if nothing else, there will be a suitable emulator?

One of my original wishes has been lost somehow.
It would really be nice to have a 5 speed in the 67F2 basic trainer. There are some tracks the 4 speed makes setups very difficult. This could also lead to more mods for GPL. There's nothing wrong with little formula cars. They are great fun.

GPL has always been, and I suspect will continue to be for the foreseeable future, my benchmark that all other racing sims are measured against. It has proven to be over the last 20 years, the most difficult, challenging and rewarding driving experience I've ever encountered outside of a real vehicle.

A wish is that in Replays with the switching the driver's hand leads to the gearshift.

A good wish. :)
Espcially when you are doing a movie using replays.
Atm you have to do live capturing to see the drivers arm move, which takes way more PC ressources than using a replay and you should get the capturing spot on if you do not want to drive the same track section over and over again. :o   Capturing GPL produces several gigabyte on your hard drive. So, capturing the same thing over and over again LIVE sums easily up to 20 GB within nothing.

Lee, is there any chance to change that?
I guess this is deeply coded in the GPL exe.

Lee, I know you are buissy with other "anniversary" things ;) but did you have time yet to take a look into that?

I too would like to see the shifting code better understood. The full 67 F2 and the lower powered AT sometimes feel like shifter carts on small tracks with long straights. A five speed BT would be perfect. And then we could have a shifter cart mod :)

I don't think that this one has been mentioned as yet but here's a fix I'd like to see.

An end to the freekin' join and leave lag for on-line races.  It's a damnable, horrid curse!

You are right Doni,
this has to do with the problematic text rendering of OpenGL...

Maybe we can find a programmer who is able to devellop Nigel Pattinsons V2 rasterizer further to a modern level.

Afair we had brr working in such a direction, but he disappeared...

Better online code so we get less freezes and other online problems.

Also the ability to have more than 19 players online would be great.

Yeah, afaik NR2003 has the same basic engine as GPL but way better online conditions...

If we could transplant those...
