I have just downloaded Sudschleife for GTR2, converted from Rfactor and all I can say is that if it is ever relesed for Grand Prix Legends it is likely to become one of those legendary tracks, spoken of in the same breath as the Targa, Dundrod, the Isle of Man and a few others.

Pray tell, where did you find this download?  Having enjoyed the rfactor version, I've searched for months for a GTR2 version;  found many references, even an alternate LOD, but never the track itself.

Found it at Evolution Modding here:- http://evolution-mod...fe-for-gtr2-gtl
Evolution Modding is a great site with also a lot of GTL cars and tracks, which can be converted to GTR2 if you know how.  You may need to register to download, I can't remember.  It will be free anyway.

Thank you!  I've been registered there for a while but it isn't one of my frequent haunts (like SRMZ or nogrip);  odd that websearches didn't find this though.  I have converted a few GTL tracks to GTR2 (Lienz is a blast in the Lotus 7), though it's rarely necessary anymore since most tracks are now released for GTL/GTR2/rfactor almost simultaneously;  but my understanding is converting from rfactor to GTR2 is much more complicated ...and I've reached the age I'd rather rack up seat time than play with files.  Looking forward to Sudschleife in P&G3 (tonight ...and another LOD to create).

I hope he's doing fine, although probably very busy. Did he decide to continue with track building? I have only seen a topic of him from 2007 some time ago saying he would transfer responsibility of his tracks to other track creators.

When, if, you decide to finish the track, let me know what I can do to help. I don't have any 3D skills, but I do visit the Ring a few times a year so I could gather information on the ground if necessary.

well martin resurfaced a while ago and, unless my memory is playing tricks on me again, offered his files. the files would need a lot of work to be polished to the standard we've come to expect nowadays and as far as i know there are no ongoing efforts at this time as other projects are further ahead in the queue and take precedence. however i am not sure if martin is able to participate should we decide to move forward with this.

This sounds like an amazing track. Sadly I have to wait till the middle of January at the earliest to get my copy of GPL. I've already downloaded a bunch of stuff, including the track editor. I'm a mechanical engineering student, so I have to know to use 3D software by trade. In my spare time I've had some fun modding games, mostly on the performance side however I've done some image modding as well.

If Cheapracer sends me the files, I'll see what I can do and learn. Would be fun to help bring a new track to GPL. I just need to know all the odds and ends that need to be figured out.

You would need to spare 3 months to one year depending on skill, level of finish and determination and a lot of it is monotomous, repetitive editing  - still interested?

Sure but what is the current state of the track? What needs to be done? I figure this is the best path to Sainthood in my life time. :)

current state of the track is it is drivable, has elevation, basic scenery and some more or less "default" textures. plus i'm not sure if this is still the case, but it used to CTD a lot once you went off the grey stuff before ginetto (i believe) applied some fixes to it to make it more drivable. what needs to be done are proper altitudes as i'm not sure how close these are to the real deal - depends on what data was on hand when martin started working on the track aeons ago. next several areas need terrain to be added (especially the area where you rejoin the s/f straight). the terrain needs to be fleshed out, abit of variety added to it - nobody wants to drive through a track with a profile like \___/ anymore  ::...___...::: is more like it..gradual shifts from flat to hilly, .. parts of the track need to be smoothed and then of course there are textures to be done.

you are familiar with the gplea track editing tutorial? just saying as the tools used are mostly arcane and user friendly ui wasn't (still isn't) their strongest point ;)

Can I do all that with the track editor or will I need to bring it into another program from the editor? I'm new to all of this but I'm willing to learn and I do know how to use 3D software, but each one is always different. I figure this is a good way to get to know this tools before trying harder stuff.

With smartphones and GPS and apps and all that, I imagine it shouldn't be too hard to get the correct elevation data for the Südschleife as much of the track is still there.

Go HERE , follow their tutorial and create your first track. This way you have a good idea of what you are going to use.
Not much of 3D software I would say...
I attach the actual state of the GTK and a couple of screenies from 3dsimed
Ciao! :)

I didn't reach the 3dsimed-step in my try of making a GPL track... but looking at that program, I think I'll give my local track a new chance, lol.

Thanks Ginetto, I'm getting to work on that right now. Hopefully by the time that I actually know how to drive decently in the game, this will be finished.

I could use the files for this thrack for when I'm ready to dive into them. What is the best way to get them? By email or a download from somewhere?

The problem with GPL track making is that all the tools are more than 10 years old and every corner needs to be hand made... And there is no way, afaik, of converting it back from rF/GTL/GTL to GPL. That's the biggest problem, imho.

It's a cool track to drive in rf/GTL, etc. though. Needs some work, but makes for some good races.  :andale:

I'm bringing this thread back. I now have GPL working and I want to split my time between making this track and perfecting my driving. Whoever has this track, I would appreciate it if it was sent to me.

The Südschleife would make way for the colossus: The Nürburgring Gesamtstrecke.
