Hi fellow GPLers. I'm curious to know about the updates you'd advise for a newbie to GPL, to enhance their experience. Starting with the 67 base game,then going to such mods as 55 or 68.

I know some of your answers may become limitless and create a pretty long list, but all I want is very basic update ideas for each year mod.

What I'm saying is imagine if I installed GPL67 first, with the 1.07 or 1.08 installer. What do you think would be the basic important updates required to make that year different & maybe better. So things like track updates, car updates, add-ons, tools, plus other ideas.

After doing that lets look at the 55 mod, then the 65,66,68,69 years. What are those basic important updates you'd advise to add, to help improve a newbies immersion within those mods.

I don't want included the F2, Tasman, Sports Car, Thunder cars mods (yet anyway) that maybe later. Just the major GP/F1 open wheel mods.

For example I know for 67 year you'd include the Monza update for sure, along with the extra mod.

So let's say only your top 6 upgrades for each year. You don't have to have a full 6 in your list but you can go ever so slightly over that mark. Try though not to overload the list by having something ridiculous like 12 or even 20 ideas. As that could get messy and be slightly overkill. Just those major ones required (1-6) that you feel would benefit a newbie player at the start and maybe as they are learning to drive the game. You may not have any updates for a particular mod and therefore feel it is perfect as it is. So just include the ones that you feel are ultimately relevant and a must.

So the years we are looking at for hopefully all your ideas are:

1= 67-
2= 55-
3= 65-
4= 66-
5= 68-
6= 69-

Just an honest opinion of what you'd advise a newbie to install first, to upgrade their GPL experience.

Thanks all 👍

Most of my time has been in the '55 and '65 mods, and have a separate install for the '67 historic.

I myself is starting to get lost with GPL updates, patches and options :D

For a newbie I would suggest to select a favourite year/mod and drive it for a few weeks before trying anything else, even updates.

After that (before all other mods) I would advise to install some "mandatory" patches like 60fps (variations), letterbox, weather. And I'd say every newbie should join a league and start a learning curve with the help of the league members.

For a returning old mate I might pass my whole GPL folder :)

I would advise this order for new players, it's similair to how I got into it.

1. 1965 mod
2. 1969 mod
3. 1967 Historic mod
4. 1966 mod
5. 1967 original

Because the original cars drive and feel so different to everything else I would not touch them untill you've become somewhat of a "intermediate" driver.
The 1965 mod is perfect to start with and the 1969 mod will make you familair with much higher cornering speed. When you drive the mods in this order you gradually learn to drive with less grip.

I think the 1955 mod would also be good for a beginner but they require a skillset / driving style that isn't used in any of the other mods.

I don't recommend mod 1955. I consider it the worst of those that have been. Not finalized, raw...

Thank you all for your replies & thoughts.

I would love to hear more about not just the actual mods to play as per say, but add-ons that you'd recommend to add in, to the years I've mentioned. So more looking at things like Monza or Spa67 updates and various patches such as Lee's.

Thanks anyway. Much appreciated 👍

Not sure if this is the sort of thing you had in mind but...

MrX3m3's tire tread files add a really nice "used" look from the cockpit.
