:hat-tip:

Using the mod carset 69x, you can have
McLaren MS7, BT24 and 26b, lotus 49b and 49 , BRM P126, Cooper T86, Matra MS10

If we mixed  "IRRIDUX carset "we will increasingly
1 cooper, 1 Matra , 1 BRM ; the eagle and 1 Honda
one might even add the Matra MS7 (F2)  (replacing the eagle 69 in the carset ? to Beltoise's AI at Kyalami)

this would give each track 1968 F1 championship a special driv69.ini.

It would be long enough to do and  I do not know if many people
a ) would be interested ?
b ) loaned to participate in this work ?

I guess many people WILL be interested.
The question is how to participate. I have no idea how could I (for example) help in this work. I would like it, for sure.

Cheers, Marcos.

:wow:

Amazing pictures Irridux. Your 65 update is excellent, and historical grids for 67 and 68 would  be extremely welcome.
Not sure how I could contribute to this, not being an editor, but please take this as a strong expression of interest and support.

I thought for driv69.ini take the 19 drivers marked with a blue dot and complete with alternates when they're absent.
like that :

In 1968 Brian Redman gave me one or two photos of the F1's if they would help.

If wanted I can setup a private forum so you can work on this. Just let me know who is to be in the forum.

Some cars, like the 1968 Eagle and Honda, would need some updates as well. I got a bunch of jobs to do, but when they are done I'd be glad to help a willing hand :) .

I'm not a Modder myself, but i love GPL and i always thought it was a shame to have the F1 Mods for 65, 66, 67, 69 and have that 'gap' of 1968 nor being represented.

Would be great to have a 'stand alone' Mod, as opposed to a Car Set, but from reading these forums for a few years i fully appreciate (or try to) the amount of work required to achieve these to the usual high GPL standards. The Modders have my full respect

I'm unsure how different the 68 physics would be to the 69 physics, if at all.

I agree by the way, Irridux's 65 & 66 Mod updates that are historically accurate are brilliant.

A 68 Mod is in my wish list and I have a lot of textures upgrade nearly ready but we need a Team support for the modifications of the phisics, some 3D structures (Honda for example) and the basics Mod platform.
However, the pics are related to a preliminary version of 68 Carset.
Certainly, it needs a lot of work anyway.

This is the actual status of the work:

The problem with doing a good job of 1968 is that it is even more diverse that 69.

Once you start doing research you can see there are so many different car configuations being used.
1968 was the start of aero in GP and they had not really got a handle on it. By the end of the season the cars were looking something like 69 but the early part of the season is a real mixture of ideas.

So modelling all these cars and trying to get a physics to work that suits all these car configuations would be a nightmare and at best, a compromise.

That is why no one has tried to do it so far.

I have had a sort of 68mod on my HD for years. But it is not up to the standards of 65,66 or 69(69x) so I will never release it as it is.
If someone has 3 years of their life to spare and lots of dedication and skills at 3Do modelling and physics creation maybe we will see a proper 68mod.

But perhaps a carset, like what Irridux has posted screenshots of, that
are completely new for us would be enough and the races of them-abbreviated
season,would make us happy :hat-tip:

The 1968 German GP is set with Wet Nurburgring and falling rain pack
from Mark Beckman's track & Magnus T excellent add-on

The 1968 Dutch & French GP would need work though-can't remember
if there were other wet races?  :hat-tip:

It's a nice idea, but to have an accurate 68 depiction you'd also have to adjust the 69x physics a bit I guess. Even when limited to the cars that are available, I'd say you'd also have to adjust the grip (reduced) and engine power (ditto). Otherwise you'd get the same laptimes as the 69 cars, of course.

But on the other hand, like 1966, you'd get a very diverse grid, enabling you to drive very different types of cars, which makes it more interesting (at least in my book ;) )

Regards, Rudy

in 69x you have :
Engine = Climax S4 , Maserati V12 , Repco V8 , Ferrari V12 , BRM V12 , Ford DFV
14 cars and 28 slots

maybe we can rearranged to have differents cars and laptimes

There was rain at Spa in first half of the race. And surface was wet at Watkins Glen.
