Has anyone made pace notes for the Targa? I need to drive it for rank but have limited time. It would be helpful for friend to read off what kind of corner to expect next, slow, fast, etc. Just very basic info would help  a lot. As the Targa was often driven with a copilot, it would even add to the simulation. I would enjoy hearing about this if you've tried it.

It has been discussed that pace notes should be possible to do for GPL with the "GPL TrackSounds" tool by Lee Bowden,
see thread: http://srmz.net/inde...showtopic=11847
Edit: See post #35 by Lee talking about sounds for Targa: http://srmz.net/inde...=30#entry126130

But AFAI pace notes for Targa Florio (or any other track) are not available for GPL yet and I haven`t read that anyone has started to create them.
I guess it would be a lot of work to create them for the GPL TrackSounds program. :)

There are Targa pace notes available for rFactor created by 6e66o: http://www.virtualr....enotes-released
They could be handy when someone should pick up the big task to create them for GPL. ;)

I would like to try to create them for the GPL Targa but I just don`t have enough time atm. :(

Edit:

Lee has created a nice program that gives you pace notes for GPL tracks.

Josef, the Targa Florio was always driven with only one person in the car after WWII.

Hi Josef,

For 90% of the track, the left corner will be followed by a right one :secret2:

I think you have to drive it again and again and learn from your mistakes.
This way you get the satisfaction and the track the attention it deserves.

You can do it!
One lap a day.
Have fun :)

Or you could try the Moss/Jenks toilet role method from the Milla Miglia races 😊

You can also use Targa Trainer to start at different points along the circuit so you don't have to drive every time the first part and little time the last ones.

Pace notes are a great idea, but ultimately if you want to be fast there's no alternative but to learn the circuit.

Drive a lap and save the replay, crashes and all :) Watch the lap through to each point where you crash and then go back a corner and find a landmark and memorize it. You'll start to know where the tricky corners are and where you need to be slow.

Then repeat the process to find the start of the fast(er) sections. Learn the towns, learn the corners between the long straight and the start finish line, break the track into chunks, maybe practice each laptime sector separately.... you'll find certain sections of track will remind you of corners in other circuits and help you remember them.

For a few weeks I got up early and did a lap as if it was my daily commute to work, and if possible another lap in the evening too. :D

Good luck, it's a fantastic circuit and worth the effort in my opinion.

For me...the more simple approach to long circuits is divide in zones where you can use the same gear first, and only look for landmark for the more danger corners. Until you memorize those sectors...

Damn! now i wont to drive the Targa with the 55! :hb: :drive1:

Typically what I do at Targa is that I divide the track in several sectors, to have an idea where I am.
Like hagapito says, I can divided via landmarks, notorious corners, cities, etc.

Then you get e.g. something like this.

Spoiler

And in between these sector I can also remind myself what can of special corners are inside there.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. My idea was to just write the turns down on paper and have a partner read them off to me while I drive. It's probably not much fun for the "co-driver" but I think it would be fun.

I will probably drive it with a notebook on my lap and make a note after I crash in each corner. The notes can be improved each lap.

Thanks to all involved with this awesome track.

Josef
