I tried F1 2016 with the wheel today but the force feedback feels terrible in my opinion. I was kind of expecting it to be a bit numb since it's not a hardcore simulator, but this was dissapointing. I would rather play it with a gamepad if I could and the steering sensitivity was as it were in F1 2012 or 2015.

But now I have a wheel I'll stick to the non-official options in rFactor 2 and Automobilista, I find those much more enjoyable. rFactor 2 also has fantastic AI drivers, but saldy no championship mode.

The F1 2016 FFB is bad. I have played it as well on the wheel and especially over the kerbs I have no idea what its doing. Sometimes it seems to stay stuck to turning left/right.
F1 2017 however is way better, guaranteed. And for what I've heard F1 2018 should also have great FFB with the new physics systems.

Can't really quote on F1 2012 and 2015 because my wheel (G920) doesn't function properly on either.

Not sure how it should feel? Don't modern F1 cars use power steering?

I'll wait for another free weekend to give 2017 or 2018 a chance I suppose, unless it's really cheap to get somewhere. I'm never sure with Codemasters games. They often made big changes to their sequels om the past, that's for sure but they have not always been for the best.

@Pete, I think they do indeed. But it's also the feeling of the physics, it feels to tame in my opinion. Compared to let's say Automobilista's F1 car model the Codemasters cars almost feel like a boat to me.
But I understand why the F1 games will never go down that route, it's way too difficult for the mainstream audience. Same reason GPL never became really big I think. :)

Every now and then i'll try GPL original untouched. It looks so bad it makes my eyes hurt. However, it still drives the same and loads so fast I chuckle every time.

Actually, I don't play it untouched. I can't get the whole thing to play on a modern system. What I do is just install the original tracks and cars untouched and drive it.
