With the recent success of women's sport, like Soccer,Rugby,Cycling and more recently the Cricket World Cup.
Would it be a great idea to have females compete in motorsport like F1 and other.
Or is this too sexist ?

I'm not against female drivers, problem is they're consistently way slower and take too many risks when driving.
If Fangio tolf so to De Filippis and EVERY single Indycar and Nascar driver told Danica Patrick to mind where the hell she's putting her car, there's a problem... don't you think? :)

I am reflecting from the positive growth of women's Soccer and Cricket.
I feel that their inclusion in sport but competing as one sex and not mixed with men as been a breath of fresh air.
I am not been scouvinist here but rather pro-actively promoting their rightful inclusion in world sport.
With that I feel Motorsports could get more pro-active too.
If F1 formulated a series for just women it could do it in many different ways. It could run alongside the F1 weekends but maybe start with Europe first and piggy back, for interest, onto present F1.
It could run similiar to GP2 with lower power and shorter GP laps.
The negatives are of course fan interest and whether present F1 teams like Mercedes or Williams, would finance it with having to find more cars ?

If I can say something about that subject, I would like to talk about women and not "female"...
Perhaps you don't know her, but Michèle Mouton was a rally car driver and it doesn't seem to me that she didn't know how to put her car on the road... At her time, it seems also to me that the only one that she was not able to beat was Walter Röhrl... And I never heard mister Röhrl said something unfair about her... They were driving together the same car, it was the first Audi Quattro... Un incredibly savage car !!!
Personally, I drove five years in go-kart between 13 and 18 years old and I made several times different european championship, and the world championship. I remember three pilots better than everyone else.
The first one was to my point of view the most amazing. He won more than twenty times the world championship, his name was Terry Fullerton. He was like a comet. A true Master. The second one was Ayrton Senna. Not bad either....
And the third was... Cathy Muller. She won the world championship in front of 150 kids... I was there and she was literally flying above us... An incredible dancer that I never forgot... She had a fabulous class and we were small and heavy in front of her... I don't know what is happened to her after that, but I will never forget her, that's for sure.
That's all. :)

DB- I remember in the Senna film,Ayrton asked about who was the best driver to give him satisfaction whilst racing. He said Fullerton.
The same I presume.

Ah thought so. Thanks DB plus links.

I am not saying Women couldn't compete against Men in this case motorsport. I am sure there are some ladies that could kick some xxx and make men eat their dust.
I just think it would be more feasible better and competitive if they challenged themselves within their own identity and group setting.

I would like to see it happen.

Michele Mouton, the only lady to win a World Championship Rally, got back behind the wheel of a Porsche 911, in preparation for the Rallye International du Maroc from October 9-16-2010.

I would like to see female drivers in F1 fighting against Vettel, Hamilton and the others.

I know the title refers to F1 but Anna Carrasco and Maria Herrera didn't disgrace themselves in Moto3. Never at the sharp end but rarely last either, Then there is Jenny Tinmouth she campaigned in BSB for a number of years, again not running at the front but respectable results and did get a ride with the Honda BSB team until they went down to two bikes.

Wasn't there also Simone De Silvestro who raced in Formula E for a while?

Not sure about FE John, but she ran Indycar for a couple of season and is now plying her trade in the V8 Supercars. And not too doing too bad either from what I've heard.

I can’t think of any reason that a woman couldn’t compete in F1 or any race series. You don’t need to be physically strong which might be the only intrinsic advantage that men have.

The problem probably has been getting sponsors to break from the stereotypic protective feelings that the public have for women.  Also the strong aversion that some men still have that they couldn’t bear being beaten by a woman comes into play.

But having a special series for women only?  Why not have an age-graded series for elderly people?

Leon, it’s clear that you ARE against female drivers.  If anything the stats show that females are too smart to participate in such a risky chauvinistic sport.
