Thanks Stefan,
I am very tempted, it is the price of the GOTY version that attracts me, the thing that makes me undecided is that DCS has announced the stay at home Steam sale, 50% discount on at least two products (there's a lot more) that attract me a lot, the F/A-18C Hornet and Persian Gulf Map, I already have Flaming Cliffs 3, the A-10C Warthog and Nevada Test and Training Map...

Oh well, in the end I think I'll take DiRT, I already have enough content for DCS that it will take me years to dissect them all, of course taking off and landing on an aircraft carrier in adverse conditions and at night, alone, it's like to do the world record at Ouninpohja...

I take this opportunity to thank you for everything you do for all of us, addicted to Grand Prix Legends, you are a legend too!

You are welcome Roberto.
There are many good package offerings and also game bundles at the moment, many of them also because of the Corona virus chrisis.
The choice is yours. Too many games too choose  :)

With Dirt Rally 2.0 GOTY version you can`t  do anything wrong.
If you buy it contact me on Steam.
We could do some DR 2.0 racing online. For DR 1 we had a GPL Drivers club and did some online racing (we were only three guys).
Maybe we could reactivate it?
Rob, what do you think?

Currently I still work, my company is one that can / must remain open and, all in all, I am quite happy to be able to move even with the associated risks, I am prepared and I have received a certain level of training in dealing with dangers of this type (CBRN).

Thank you so much for the invitation, as soon as I buy it, I'll definitely point it out to you, I have no idea how online racing takes place for a rally, everyone runs their own stage just like in a rally?

In fact, this is the other limit that hinders me from making the purchase, in RBR you had more stages for rallying than in reality, here is a single stage for rallying or am I wrong?

Finally, if I go back to competing online, I have to give Piero and Marco Mercaldo a hand in your GPL championships, since we have been on the team since 1998, do not dedicate myself to rallies!

Edit reason: stupid google translate that think in italian GPL mean Gas di Petrolio Liquefatti and so translate as Liquefied Petroleum Gas, why not General Public License?

Yes, certainly we can, although like Roberto, even though I am working from home I find that I am amazingly busy with meetings etc. in addition to trying to catch up with paper work, plus we are getting set up to deliver teaching (remotely) to our students again from next week now that spring break is over!

.....

The way it worked for online competition was that someone decides which stages and cars are allowed for the rally event you are making, how often you can service, what are the weather conditions etc. and then on a certain date and time these stages go live and players can record their times. There are no second chances, so you must drive the stage like you are in a real rally and decide your personal balance between fast and trying to finish! You can also set up a championship so that each week (or which ever interval you choose) there is an event and the winner of each event gets championship points. When setting up the competition you also set the deadline for completing the event and players can see a countdown to when the event will end so they know when they need to complete the rally.

For live online racing, Dirt Rally 1 and 2 both have Rallycross as well where you can have online racing as in other racing games, totally live. This is also with public lobby "pick up" races and you can arrange leagues or "friends only" events too.

For the rallying, Dirt Rally 2 has a somewhat limited number of locations and stage miles, although there is more (with all of the add ons or GOTY pack) than in the original Dirt Rally 1. Dirt Rally 2 has all of the stages from Dirt Rally 1 available (as DLC or in the GOTY pack) plus more new locations and each location has effectively two long stages (~10 to 14 miles) which can be driven in both directions, or as shorter parts (each part about half of the total length) in both directions, making a total of 12 routes for each location. Dirt Rally 2 also has more Rallycross tracks as well than the original Dirt Rally 1. In Dirt 4 they tried using a random stage generator to make an infinite amount of new roads to rally on, but, that was actually much worse than Dirt Rally 1 and 2 in my opinion. The problem with the procedural stage generator was that although each stage was different, they were also all oddly the same. They only had a limited number of sub-sections and these would appear very frequently so although the total stage was always unique, the patterns of repeated turns that created it were boringly similar. Although Dirt Rally 1 and 2 have only a limited amount of stage miles, each of those stages is unique and feels different and the way they are made is much more complex and satisfying to drive and also much better to look at visually.

Thanks for the information, finally I purchased.
Tonight, when I get home, I proceed with the installation and do some tests to see how it behaves with my hardware.

Stefan, I asked you for friendship on steam, I also confirm that I rarely play, usually the (relatively) little time I have in the evening I dedicate to playing guitar or keyboard, mostly guitar since it doesn't need to be powered to work.

Rob (Robert like me?), I see that you live in Saint Andrews, the daughter of a dear friend of mine, whom I consider like to be my daughter, study medicine in Dundee, where's you teach and what, if I'm not too much indiscreet?

Thank you all.

even DiRT Rally 1 does not reach the level of Colin McRae Rally Richard Burns Rally, for me the only rally game that comes close to the driving pleasure that GPL gives me.

Have you ever tried Rally Trophy?
It's the best rally game of all time for me and uses classic cars not modern. It's an incredibly fun game!

The other thing I like is the setups are not overly complex. The game uses a general slider bar for the different parameters. (Tires, suspension etc)
It makes the process of finding good setups less tedious.

It's the closest rally game in driving feel to GPL imo.

I will never stop playing it, too much fun!

@Roberto: Thank you for saying thank you regarding GPL. :)
I will accept your Steam friendship tonight.
I don`t know about your hardware but if you need any screenshots of my wheel and graphics settings for DR 2.0 just ask.
My system: http://www.gplworld....em-requirements (scroll down)

@Rob: I am also working from home atm. Last time we also didn`t manage many online races. But the few we had were nice. :)
I will have a look into the DR 2.0 club system. Maybe I just create a new one as I don`t know if the old one of DR also works for DR 2.0, plus I think only you could reactivate the old one because you have created it.

And here some nice onboard footage (47 min. !) of the real Colin McRae in action, with co-driver voice, no music:

2003 Colin McRae Metro 6R4 in car

Quote

Pure in-car action from the 1995 World Rally Champion Colin McRae, driving his own MG Metro 6R4 as course car on the 2003 Colin McRae Forest Stages Rally. Co-driven by Chris Patterson. Converted from the original limited-edition VHS release, no longer commercially available. The tape itself was not in perfect condition; I have made one sympathetic edit to avoid an unplayable section of tape.

SS1 - Craigvinean
SS2 - Drummond Hill
SS3 - Errochty
SS4 - Drummond Hill 2 (some parts of the stage the same as SS2 + different sections)
SS5 - Craigvinean 2 (some sections the same as SS1 or reversed + some different roads).

Thanks Stefan, I checked your configuration, my hardware exceeds yours, tonight's check is to check functionality, how many details I can activate and to feel how the car reacts behind the wheel.

Magnificent movie, in exchange I suggest one that I love:

Rally Trophy I have not tried it, I consumed it at the time!
However, in all honesty, I must say that RBR was clearly superior to RT, and for the moment, the one that comes closest to the feeling of guiding GPL.

Interesting news:

World RX Esports Invitational Championship Revealed:

Motorsport Games has announced a partnership with Codemasters and the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy to create the World RX Esports Invitational Championship. The series will be held on the dates of selected rounds of the 2020 FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy that have been postponed due to health concerns and government regulations relating to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. The first race, the Barcelona World RX Esports Invitational, will be held on Sunday 19th April using DiRT Rally 2.0 on PC via Steam.

...

Yes, I am also a Robert! I am a post-doctoral researcher at the University in St Andrews working in the physics department. My research work is on radar and magnetic resonance systems and in that regard I am more of an engineer or perhaps an applied physicist rather than being a pure physicist. The teaching I am doing is mostly small class tutorials to support the lectures that the students are attending. I help them with their question sheets and also I do some classes that help to teach study skills like preparing and giving talks, writing review essays, team based problem solving, that sort of stuff. I also help to supervise students doing their final year projects where they have a specific project to work on themselves within a research group for three to six months and then have to present a final thesis and do a viva. In my own research we are collaborating with a couple of different research groups who are working in University of Dundee, one in their physics department and another in their life sciences department.

I am not sure I would remember any of the log in details for the old club we had set up. Definitely just set up a new club for DR 2.0 and we can take things forwards from there!

Thanks also for the video link!

Thanks Rob for the information, when you have formed the club I will be happy to join.
For now I want to see how far I can get from the times made last year in the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

I really hope that this situation will end as soon as possible, I would be very sorry not to come to Munich for the Oktoberfest, a constant appointment with friends for more than thirty years, plus we had plans to come to Dundee to visit my friend's daughter, possibly in a camper to be able then to make a tour of Scotland!

Two splendid occasions to find you two in person, you damned virus!

I have given you admin rights, so you can also create a club championship and kick people.

I have already driven the 3 stages with the Fiat 131 Abarth. Well, I was bad, too many spins. :)

Thanks again Stefan, I joined the club, unfortunately with the current emergency the little free time I spend in support of people, I was barely able to set the graphics and steering wheel and pedal, plus a few laps on the test track.

I hope to be able to spend some time as soon as possible.

If you like rally, this is really a great site for Richard Burns Rally. It's totally modded up to date. All you need is install the original RBR and all the tracks, cars and mod are here to install.  http://forum.rallyes...wforum.php?f=65
You can race online or off. I had this on my other hard drive and it is great.

I have a G27 and windows10 and it works fine. I'm not sure if it's still available for purchase but you can find a copy to DL somewhere on line. Just type "Richard Burns Rally download" in google or fire fox and it should bring you to a link to the (Free official download link to RBR) on a Steam community forum. ;)  The mod itself is free to DL.
Here is an installation guide for the mod by Jimmy Broadbent https://youtu.be/i2mFsPXOG24
