Surely the enduring appeal of GPL is in large part because we can race full, historically correct championships with all cars and tracks. A point which he I note he completely fails to mention.

I feel this guy is lying. I don't know why, but to say GPL is the easiest to drive is lying. We've tried all the other sims and i'm sure nobody here agrees that GPL is the easiest to drive. I don't know what his motive is, but it's not honest.

I believe he just meant that GPL is not as difficult as people remember because now we have better peripherals and more knowledge and understanding about how to race.

Good one, Keith !

Lol

No, he said the Lotus 49 is easier to drive than all the other Lotus 49's in other sims. That's a flat out lie. Nobody could agree with that if they drove all the cars in other sims. iRacing, PC2, and AC have the Lotus 49. I've raced all of them and I put the GPL Lotus as the hardest to drive and I have decades experience in it. He's a noob to GPL and finds the Lotus easy to drive. He's not being truthful.

Pete, he never said that... you read the article wrong... he tried the Ferrari 312 and said that it was the easiest F1 from the sixties he has ever tried. And for the reasons I said, not because the sim is done wrong, but because he knew what to expect while in '98 it was a first time for everybody and that was what caught people off guard according to him.

If he thinks you have to brake in a straight line in the 312 I really can't see how he can have driven GPL enough to have a valid opinion about it.

Also, a little sidenote. He says to have tried the Ferrari 312 with Alison Hine's setup on. That's what did the trick also, I believe. Hines' Ferrari setups are incredibly good, very stable and balanced. I remember when I first discovered them thinking "wow this is a completely different car", while default setup is incredibly nervous and unstable. The fact he had the first experience with that setup on heavily influenced his opinion, he should have gone out with default setup first.

Anyway, he said that he asked for approval to be part of the forum. Does that mean he is a user? Is he reading us now? It would be nice if he would take part in this conversation.

His quote Leon.

"The game isn’t nearly as hard as many have made it out to be; in fact these are the easiest 60’s Formula One cars I’ve driven in any sort of hardcore oriented simulator. "

Actually Pete I think that is a compliment and a dig at the others.

Really think the article is very good in many respects.
Leon, thanks for posting the link.

In outline form it maybe reads like the narrative of a checklist review comparing the history and current state of Grand Prix Legends to what is possible today. So, good job at that and its his opinion.

After all the trauma and catastrophe that has been part of GPL on-line history it is a wonder it has survived and remains an open community, but no wonder that membership and participation is guarded.

One other security aspect is on-line source diversity, (having independent self-sustaining sites for critical infrastructure download), is a very important part of on-line survival.

Was also surprised to read PRC apparently went negative at Monza after only a few laps?
Maybe he did.
Maybe some of his readers will get the 2004 or 2013 demo, check it out, get registered here and make a donation.

Good for Grand Prix Legends.

:D

And where do you read Lotus 49 exactly? Plus he is labelling GPL as an hardcore oriented simulator. That is a pretty good compliment if you ask me.

He says the easiest cars. That's plural. Look at the other sims. They all have the Lotus 49. How can he not be comparing it?

Do you really think he never drove the Lotus in GPL? Look at the pictures. The camera is on the Lotus in some of them.

Why are you defending him?

OOPS...
Thanks Rich.

Maybe it depends on what is meant by "easiest."
My preference is to think it means the others aren't as much fun.

He says they're the easiest he's driven. I don't think he meant fun. I take it to mean on a difficulty scale. Does anybody here agree with that?

Who knows besides PRC why he chose to say "easiest" when there surely are other words that offer more detail or would be a more descriptive reflection of his analysis. Maybe it was just the easiest word to use.

It could mean consistent, reliable, intuitive.
It could refer to immersion.

Something can be easy on your eyes.

In the context of the article it seems to mean he was disappointed that running Monza faster than Alison's beta time was easy enough compared to the reputation Grand Prix Legends has for being difficult.
He thinks GPL is not as difficult as its reputation portrays and the cars are easier to drive than others.
Doesn't mean it is easy or what is meant by it.

He said it's easier than all other sims that have 60's cars. Have you drive the Lotus in PC2 with the default tires. It drives like a modern F2 car. AC or iRacing? RF2? All those cars are easier to drive than the Papy cars in GPL.

I have no idea what his motive is. I do know anybody who reads the article who hasn't driven GPL will think it's easy to drive. Maybe that will get them to try GPL and that's a good thing, but they're in for shock when they hit the track for the first time in any of the 67 F1 cars.
