Today I have tried to livestream a Grand Prix Legends race from 21.30 to 22.30 CET.
It was a race in the Fun-Liga, the 10th Race of their 1955 mod Cup.

I'm not sure if this has ever done before, so I am quite excited about sharing this here :)

I think streaming overall went without issues for other drivers, though I may have ended the livestream a little too soon as multiple drivers suffered a freeze on the last lap.
Presumably because I then ended the livestream.

Video below:
Recording settings: 720p, 60 FPS, 6 Mpbs

Video was inadvertly and unofficially sponsored by GeForce Experience.

Hi Yannick,
My brother was on grid yesterday. And he suffered freeze on first lap :( We don't know if it was because of your livestream or because of 60 fps. But I know that with 36fps I have never experienced any problems at Reims. And I don't understand how livestream by one of driver can influence on other participants.

Sorry to hear that, Pavel & Roman.

Did it happen during the first lap or did it already happen on the grid? There may be a link between starting/ending the stream that causes drivers to drop out.

After finishing myself at the end I went to stop the stream after about 30 seconds and presumably this may have caused a mass-freeze. (I need to see a .rpy for full confirmation)

I need to know if there's a link bewtween it so I can trace some flaws of streaming I need to consider if I intend to stream again. (e.g. first to enter grid, last to leave)

Yes Yannick, it looks like there is a coincidence,
but Reims is also known for troubles sometimes.

Better to do it in a training race than in a league race the next time...

As a long time hoster I confirm that problematic connections of clients can make troubles on a GPL server...

Here is the replay:

Hmmm, it don't think the incident was related then. I don't know why it happened then. :(

I had freezes in this corner in previous races, so this is imo track related.

One question I do have is why are the sliproads at Reims all corrupt and mangled? Is this just due to an incompatibility with Thomas Lächele's update or what causes it?

From what you have all been saying, I think the freezing problem is nothing to do with online or 60fps but the way that GPL loads data.
Do the freezes only last a second or so and then the game continues as normal?

This problem happens consistently on the first lap of an event (did your friend skip qualifying or disconnect in between that and the race?).
Two examples of this that I know of are:
The exit to the second Lesmo at Monza.
Some way down the straight behind the pits at Nürburgring. This only happens with super high res content installed and I think I found what causes it - the mercedes building has GIANT textures in the update (which is amusing and unecessary given that they are really blurry and just upscaled).

So I think you can elliviate the problems somewhat by reducing the texture sizes that the game is having to load. You could also see if a different rasteriser helps?
I'm not sure what causes the problem at the second Lesmo.

Either way, it only happens on the first lap so don't worry too much.
You could try running a different graphical update and fixing it if it bothers you a lot. At least it is predictable so that you know it is coming.

The sliproad asphalt at Muizon corner looks that way in all versions of Reims.  I did clean-up the exit of Muizon on the racing line.  :)

That Reims 1955 track version in that video is not the latest work.  Please find it here - http://srmz.net/inde...showtopic=11823

Oh okay, I wonder why they are like that with really weird wavy edges? It looks so strange! Maybe the original mod didn't paint white lines on the edge of the track so it was less noticeable?

Here's a screen capture of the original Reims track made by the Allam brothers.  The track was constructed back in 2002.  :)

I just temporarily removed all of the loose add-on files to get back to the original track contained within the reims.dat file.

Notice the sliproad at Muizon corner.

Also, here is a screen capture of Reims with Thomas' add-ons re-applied.

The wavy edges are from the way the track is constructed. You start of with a centerline of lines and constant radius corners and extend all the surfaces and walls from that centerline. Due to that you cant really make straight lines when the track is curving hence the wavy lines, which are tiny sections of corner made to look straight.

Track makers may have come up with a way to avoid this in newer tracks, or at least hide it better, but when Reims was made this technique may have not been available yet.

Ah okay, thanks for the pictures!
What a really strange issue, I guess it must complicated / awkward to construct off-track areas in gpl or something.

It´s the same at the Thillois hairpin too.

Edit: Thanks for the explanation Michkov! No wonder people say GPL is a pain to make tracks for haha
