Wow.  Lee this is (yet another) fantastic piece of work.  I bet some idiot feels guilty now for seeing all the work you have put in following their original comment. All your work is very much appreciated and really builds further the GPL experience.

For your information, this program worked perfectly for me.  It did NOT have the problem I got with TrackSounds where that program deactivated as soon as I started GPL.exe.   As mentioned previously, I work around that issue by delaying the start of TrackSounds until after GPL has properly started.

Coincidentally I have just got back from holiday in Sicily.  Unfortunately I only managed to drive about two thirds of the Piccolo Madonie due to road closures (between Cerda and Scillato).  Some parts I did drive had very bad ground subsidence.  Just means I will have to go back to that wonderful island someday.

thanks again

I can activate it, but I don't hear the voice in game. Not sure what i'm doing wrong. I do not use other sound patches/programs by Lee.

Especially since in the meantime after posting their outstanding idea decided to truck off and vacation in Sicily.

Always amazed that Grand Prix Legends continues to nurture innovation and we are all so fortunate to have the support of brilliant artists and editors who find a way to make it happen.

Thanks Lee, now maybe I can stay focused and won't get so lost on the second half of Targa.
Big arm wave hat tip to Ginetto also for pace note voice on these very long twisty tracks.

Was thinking things were a little too quiet lately.
Now I know why.

Try running the program as an administrator, that fixed it for me.

Robert, did you try running it as the administrator like Millennium had to do?

John, I used a web site to convert the pace notes text to speech:

http://www.readthewords.com/Try.aspx

There are several other sites, but this one was free to try.

Ginetto supplied his voice for my Targa Trainer program.

Yet another brilliant idea.

Had this vision of Ginetto up late at night saying "acute right" over and over.

I'm sure Ginetto would have been glad to do that to help out, but fortunately it wasn't necessary.  :)

This does point out that anyone can make their own pace note sounds in any language by either using a text to speech program or recording their own voice.  It's not rocket science, but does take some a couple of hours.

One last comment on GPL Pace Notes by Lee.  :)

I can confirm that on using GPL Pace Notes at the N├╝rburgring I can also use GPL Track Sounds (for which I have made a custom sound ini file section).
So, when going to in-car in the pits I can hear my car engine, the embedded track sounds of the crowd/announcer, the GPL Track Sounds pit sounds ...
and then as I start driving off into the S├╝dkehre I hear the GPL Pace Notes.

IMPRESSIVE !!!!

Thanks, I tried that last night after reading this thread.

But I found the culprit: triple screens. When in single screen (640x480) I DO hear the pace notes, but changing to triple screens (4320x900) it doesn't work! Both running as admin.

I need to first run triple screens, then execute pace notes, and then start gpl (through gem+ here). Then it works. :)

Thanks Lee, and Ginetto, should help completing the Targa for once! ;)

PS: works really nicely, it really helps anticipating corners you do not know (properly). Most of the time so far right on the mark. It might depend on your gearings a bit tho, mine were probably too long for the track. Really impressed how it works, and the efforts that have been going into this. Many thanks!

I've been too busy recently to try this yet, but it sounds mightily impressive! I'm especially impressed Lee with your attempt to write a program which analyses the shape of a track, and then converts that to readable/audible pace note information! You're getting into the realms of creating AI there! I hope I can find the time to install and try this soon. Well done!

Thanks Saiph.

Several years ago, I tried to write a program that would automatically create the track's AI race.lp file with its position and speed values....I failed as deriving the racing "line" is very complicated stuff!   :(

So the best method we have still is to use a donor replay lap and convert that into a race.lp file.  I was able to make a simple program that automatically creates the pass.lp files based on the race, min, and max .lp files so that helps the track maker a little bit.

Anyway, my previous work on the race.lp file stuff helped out this time as the Pace Notes creator program has to read and analyse the track's .trk and race.lp files in order to create the pace notes.
