Wow ! Just did a few laps at Aintree and the Nurburgring with the Lancia D50 and all I can say is "WOW" !! I find myself liking this mod even more than I thought I would. A big thank you to all the team that helped to create this 55 mod. I also have to compliment the 1955 track updates. Beautiful work on giving these tracks a new atmosphere .

Well, I'm late to the party, but a huge THANK YOU for everyone involved with this Mod!
I've been away from GPL for a couple of years, drifted off into GTR2 and P&G...but the 55 Mod brought me back.....and it is something else.
Firstly, the cars' physics and handling are amazing. Like most people, I've never driven a 1950's Grand Prix car (although I have driven cars on skinny crossplies and drums), but the cars feel very authentic and real to me: chuckable and driftable, but with great balance and precision as well: the sort of good handling characteristics that one would imagine race-car designers have always striven to engineer into racing cars. In short, they feel like cars built to be driven quickly, rather than simulations designed to be challenging to drive.
As for the brake-fade, well, I'm no hot-shoe, but I have learnt to drive with it, and once one gets used to using the brakes lightly and the gears more extensively, it feels like a perfectly natural style. I find myself using light touches of the brakes to stabilise the car, slowing with the gears, steering on the throttle, and focusing on more than ever on line and positioning on the track- in other words, just like Paul Frere and Stirling Moss wrote about, and it feels amazing!

...and that, for me, is where the joy of sim-racing lies: in how it all feels and looks to drive, and this mod scores highly on both counts.
Now, I'm not the weepy type, but the first time I came out of Stavelot in the 250F in 4th gear, feeding the power in, letting the car drift outwards on the throttle with all four wheels singing as one roars out into the sunshine....well, I'll swear my eyes started to mist over. It was all just too, too beautiful.

Thank you, 55 Mod team, and everyone else who's ever made anything for GPL. You just keep lifting the bar, and keeping GPL right up there.

Click on "Carsets" (top left) in GEM. Move the GPL55 mod from the left column into the right in the window that popped up.

Some of you may have already found this little clip of Fangio driving a Lancia around Monaco, but I just stumbled upon it and it was new to me! Thought I'd share it in case some of you 1955 fans haven't seen it:

https://www.youtube....h?v=k9-BZ0NbriI

The slow motion portions very aptly illustrate the understeer (push) into a curve and oversteer (loose) exiting. Good stuff!!

I've made a set of GEM pictures for the mod that shows the cars in color. If you are like me and wish all carsets would display in color, just unpack the attached file into the main GPL folder, keeping folder structure and overwriting when asked to.

It's not only pulled me away from the '67s, but after driving the Lotus 49 again briefly, I'm not sure I can go back.

This is much more fun, much more rewarding, far more realistic. How can the GPL engine be capable of such a driving experience when it's 20 years old next year?

That`s a super impressive lap. I`m still struggling away learning these amazing cars and this fantastic mod. Getting my lap times down (mostly) but still in the 4`s at Spa.

Good stuff. B)
