Hallo again!

..while I'm waiting to see the F1 comeback to Turkey this week end,

I wondered, if I could beat the actual track record of Istanbul park, set by Montoya in 2005.

As I'm just a occasional sim driver, this seemed to be nearly impossible.

But could I make the impossible possible?

If you want to know, go here to see:

.. and enjoy!

Cheers,

from Ralonso

I wouldn't be surprised.  Over the years people in various racing sims have beaten RL track records;  possibly because it is easier to take risks when their butts are in the comfort of  their living rooms than when said butts are on the line on a real track.  (In ICR2 I beat RL times at Michigan and Milwaukee, in GTR2 I've beaten class records at Road Atlanta, Elkhart Lake, and Mid-Ohio ....in GPL i could probably walk the track and get better lap times.)

To add to this and related to this, but unfortunately not SIM race related. Sorry!
Never mind here goes and pardon the very off topic. Lol 😂

Jgf your perception reminds me of the recent fitness fad.

When you see adverts promoting countless people (all so more lately due to Covid) exercising indoors,on a mat, watching a monitor app dressed in lycra, or someone pedling on a Peloton bike. Possibly inside a warm all singing and dancing gymnasium.

The real deal is outdoors, walking, jogging, marching. Lifting outdoor weights. Hill running or playing live sports. Doing these in extreme elements, over hard terrain, with challenge and under pressure. You just can't replicate this or even compare it.

Okay some people can't always access outside, for whatever reason, and I fully understand that. Especially now with the lockdown restrictions, or maybe because of mobility issues. Possibly lifestyle and barrier circumstance too.

Okay they're at least topping up their fitness, keeping active and staying fit.

But I truly feel it's just not cutting it. To a point we're I feel we are now breading a rabbit hutch society, rather than getting people active, out and about and into the outdoors. To help experience the real deal and the true to life value. This to me is a great shame to our world and a negative fallout of our present situation and Covid culture.

Okay off topic and switch now back to on topic 👍

Right off my soapbox, back to my Sim Racing and to try and win a championship 🤭😂

Oh the dream of being a race driver 🤣😂

You know.. I have maximum respect for this forum and the community of it. As I have still for GPLegends, of course, which is WHY this forums exists in the first place..

Additionally to all this, I feel very thankful, that from time to time I have the opportunity to post some of my videos, here, even if I mostly don't cover GPLegends.

I'm not shy, just respectful!

;-)

Thank you again!

The Mercedes Team has estimated that due to the changes and developments on the F1 2020 car(s) since 2011, the laptimes at Istanbul Parc will be about 4 secs. faster (Vettel did a 1:25.079 for Pole in 2011) than the last time F1 raced on this track..

I can't wait to know the new real life 2020 Poleposition time.. maybe I will have no more chances to "strike back", then..

It seems that in the first and second open practice yesterday, no one was able to beat Montoya's time from 2005. Let's see if anyone can in qualifying today. Nice video Ralonso.

Not today in those conditions.  It seems like a long time since I've seen F1 cars struggling for grip the way they were today. Lance may not be anything special in the dry, but he's shown a few times that when it gets slippery he's pretty good.

Can't believe they decided to resurface so close to the race weekend. Croft said it wasn't finished until 10 days ago in the broadcast.  What were they thinking?

I'm assuming the thought process was something along the lines, the track hasn't been in use for 5 or 6 years and the F1 drivers tend to complain about bumpy tracks so we better resurface it.

I for find it quite entertaining and would like to put it to the FIA to mandate the repaving of each track a week before the races.

Those poor fellows.  Allegedly the world's best drivers but can't deal with normal bumps and inconsistencies, can't stay on the track so require acres of runoff space, can't negotiate straights longer than 1200ft, and won't go anywhere not within walking distance of five star hotel/casino complexes;  no wonder all modern F1 tracks are so bland and boring.  If they wish to impress me again, let them run at tracks like Laguna Seca, Road Atlanta, Elkhart Lake.

Nico Rosberg has again released one of his enjoyable track presentation videos, this time focusing on the Istanbul circuit, of course!

In it he is doing a hotlap as well... I was quite surprised about his laptime, though..;-)

Here you can check it out: https://www.youtube....r7XybBcY&t=561s
