i'd like to hold a race at Targa online.. similar to the way it was done.
i'm told its possible, but i don't know HOW to allow 2 minute incremental starts and still have all 19 racers be allowed to start and not get disco'd for not starting ...  any leagues out there that have done this?
tips/suggestions welcome~

Hi Bo,

In the past I have run events like this in various leagues using a 2 hour long practice session. As they did back then, you have to figure things out after the event by adding up laptimes offline from the replay but it does allow you to run a fairly realistic event.

The format that we tended to run was to have everyone congregate in chat before hand and usually to agree a start order there. For interest and to ensure that you might occasionally see someone this was quite often slowest predicted runner to start first, fastest goes last. This also means that the slowest runners will get slightly longer before the session timer runs out to finish their laps and also you tend to get the field coming back together throughout the event so you might all finish around the same sort of time rather than waiting a long time at the end for the slowest guy who also started last to finally finish.

The last to go off in the chosen running order acts as race starter. When everyone has all joined the server and is settled in and have selected their race setup etc., you get the first starter to go to the pitlane and then watching the session clock the starter issues a "Go Dave" type message when the clock clicks to e.g. 1h 58 mins remaining and Dave sets off for his one or two or three laps. The starter might then issue a "Get ready John" command, or John might already know he is next and so go to the pit lane to wait for the "Go John" message when the session clock clicks to 1h 56 mins (or which ever interval you are using).

So you then proceed through the session until just the starter himself is left and he then goes to the track and sets off for his lap after waiting for the required interval from the penultimate driver.

Rules about shift-R use / penalties are obviously up to you, likewise if you just take the best lap out of a run of three, or the total for all three added together or whatever. Also it is up to you with how you rule a "catch" should be dealt with, i.e. does the car being caught immediately pull to the side since they are (at least) 2 minutes in corrected time behind, or do they get half a mile or so to find a safe spot to move over or whatever you feel is fair.

Obviously there is a short run from the pits to the S/F that is not accounted for in the event, but that shouldn't be too significant in the grand scheme of things and the cars should be separated by pretty much 2 minute intervals still by the time they each start their first timed lap.

Rob

Bruce we did it like this at GPLRACER.

http://forum.gplrace...ic.php?id=2674

Mode: Intermediate -> Shift-R (no limit)

Quote

Time Trail with "Rally-Start":
---------------------------------
The server will be set to 2 h qualifying.
The drivers join the server when they get called-up by the race director in the #GPLRACER iGOR chatroom.
The drivers wait on the server until the last driver (race director) has joined the server (that means no one gets into his car!)
The drivers start out of the pits when they get called-up by the race director by an interval of 1 minute (the race director will start last).
With 2 h qualifying each driver can drive 2 laps (one lap takes about 45 minutes)
Shift-R is of course allowed Posted Image
Winner is the driver with the fastest lap time.

If one driver gets cought up by a car he has to let the faster driver pass at the first safe opportunity
(normal blue flag rules).
