The reason that 64-bit systems must have 8GB of memory is because when an application is patched to use up to 4GB memory the system still requires memory to run itself.  Thus, before allocating 4GB for gpl, there must be memory for the OS to run and for hardware locations.  This amount is usually 4GB for 64-bit OS.... so, a total of 8GB is needed.

I had this memory value stated incorrectly in my 2015 post. (Post #15 in this thread)

What Greg said.

I see you're running Windows 10 64 bit so you really need 8 GBs of RAM...4 for Windows and 4 for everything else like GPL.

Fair enough.
Clearly if I was as clued up as you guys I wouldn't need the help!
My wife's laptop has 250Gb ssd and 8Gb Ram but I don't think she will be that understanding.
At some point when I next upgrade [a dedicated refurb perhaps] all this information will help me make the right decision to maximise the bang for bucks equation.

Buzz, those are the specs of my Toshiba laptop.  I also have an external USB 3.0 1TB hard drive for archival storage.
I really love the 250GB ssd - snappy performance.  ;)

Here are asphalt texture updates for the Monza 10k track (also works with the Monza 1000km track) that remove the 'concrete-like' seams.  The only part of the track that was concrete were the North and South Banking sections.  Also, there is a fix for a stray horizontal line in the Parabolica gravel.  :)

All of this work was done by ginetto and Db312.
