Nice graphics update except the closest mountains are the Capitan Mountains and they're 50 miles west of Bottomless Lakes. The picture from the Brabham is looking approximately north. Here's a link to Google's street view shown from a similar position as the Brabham's. https://www.google.c...!7i13312!8i6656

I wonder if they've built any guard rails at Bottomless Lakes yet? I doubt it. New Mexico doesn't have much money.

I live somewhat near this track now. The roads are virtually the same as they were in the mid 1960s. I hope to get down there some day so I can take pictures and video of the park / track. It will be interesting to actually drive on a GPL track. Any suggestions on how to video and photo the area for possible use in GPL, please let me know.

I might try to show up for this one since it's now my home track. :)

Dear JMF,

Thanks a lot for your proposition, and effectively it should be great if you can make a whole picture of the horizon in order to be able to create one for GPL, and of course in high resolution... That would be really fantastic ! :smug2:
And if you could also make a video of the whole route so that we could have an idea of what's along the road, then it would be Byzantium !
And last but not least, if I may say so, a nice big photo of the ground... :rimshot:

After that, if I can't manage to add some files a little more representative of this place, I think that even humbly watching the grass grow is too complicated for me... :sleepy:

I hope I don't misuse your proposal badly  :whistling:

Take good care of yourself JMF

I just drove the whole lap with Google Maps. County Road 409
https://www.google.c...!7i13312!8i6656

As JMF states there are no mountains visible but the track topography is undulating and the ground in the lower part of your horizon looks similar.
If you could remove the mountains and add a new sky behind it would be a good approximation. :)

Thanks Paul :)

Seeing my computer is dead and that I'm using an older one that don't give me the possibility to open Google, Youtube, etc... Could you record this whole lap and send it to me here...?... If its not headache, of course...

Thanks db for not getting angry with me for criticizing. If you made that graphics update, it looks good. I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

How should I take photos for a horizon? A few years ago I went to a place called Continental Divide Raceway south of Denver, CO. I was hoping to get pictures of the place in case somebody ever tried to recreate it for GPL. I couldn't get to the former track without trespassing but I found a place nearby that gave me a clear 360 degree view of the horizon. I took pictures facing 0 degrees (north), 45 degrees (northeast), 90 degrees (east), and so on, until I had 8 pictures of the horizon.

Paul

That's cool isn't it Paul. The track is still there virtually unchanged from the time it was used as a racing circuit. I think on a clear day if you looked west, northwest you can see the top of one of the Capitan Mountains but it would just be a small triangle above the horizon.

I tried to find some good aerial photos of the area but I wasn't very successful. I was curious about any changes in the vegetation and lake levels since the 1960s. I found pictures dating back to 1951 and water level in the lake on the left is rarely as high as we see in GPL. A photo from June 2014 was the only one I saw with similar water levels. June, July, and August are usually wettest months in New Mexico. That's fortunate for the area considering it's an arid to semi-arid climate.

I hope I don't irritate anybody hijacking this thread like I have.

Take care guys.

Hi JMF

If you do get a chance to take some photos the best method would be to have the camera on a tripod at the highest point. Take a shot and carefully rotate the camera 30 - 45 degrees and take another. keep going until you have a full 360.
Because the images would have been taken with the same aspect they will be easy to stitch together.

Hello JMF,

You simply told me what was not very realistic while I had without any reference added files just to look nice, but above all, and this is what makes all the difference, there is the "music" of your words that breathes openness and dialogue, how could I be offended ? On the contrary, I'm delighted if it helps to improve the rendering of this track, which is frankly brilliant.

Your comments are more than welcome :)

This track has beta status but has been updated by the community including flag marshals that are absent in the beta. There are also texture updates and AI updates. Many thanks and credits to the authors.

All these are included in this complete working and updated track folder.

Manual installation
To use -
Download and unzip the "Bottomless_Lakes_Complete_with_updates_2021-01-14.7z" archive
If you have the track installed you may want to rename your bottom track folder as a backup.

Copy the contents of the supplied "bottom" track folder to your gpl/tracks folder ( allow overwrite if necessary )

If you did not already have the track installed - add the supplied season information to your season ini

Download from our server here
