So there's still a minimum of three more weeks of lockdown in the UK. I always wondered when this emoji might be useful. Now I know!

I was expecting this Saiph and to be honest (without being a killjoy) after the next three weeks, at least a minimum of 2 months. Taking us to a grand total of exit around July if we're lucky πŸ‘Ž

I think though, after at least the 3 week period, they may have to (if possible?) start unlocking the exit strategy, bit by bit, to avoid economic melt down. The govt are hoping for the curve to level and then death figures to drop. Over cautious? No it's just that their hands are tied and they're not risking it.

Personally if you asked me to put a bet on so called normal times (pre Covid) I would go for the end of 2021 at the earliest and even then it will be the start of a long investigation and enquiry on how this all begun and what we can learn for the future.

Right I'm off back to beat myself up πŸ˜‚ and take out my frustration on Indycar racing 1&2 on Dosbox πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹

Well, here the medical experts are  saying we should stay home at least through May, possibly through July, before getting some people back to work.  Unfortunately the country is in the hands of pure capitalists, who care not for people, only for their dividend checks;  they want everyone back to work now.

ICR2, how I loved that sim.  You may find some of my carsets ('78 and '93 F1;  '88, '93, and '97 CART) around the net, two custom sound packs (which brought me to the attention of Sierra and the beta team of GPL), and a set of several custom dash panels.  I fired up the windows version a few years ago and couldn't even run laps at Michigan anymore - "wheel damage" ... "wing damage", lol;  and I was once on many hotlap charts.

I have both ICR original on Dosbox, just managed to change false driver names to real ones, such as Nigel Mansell.

I have Icr2 also on Dosbox, but I also have the Windows Cart version too.
The Icr2 runs okay but it seems not as fast as Cart for some reason.
I'm surprised I got Cart to run on Windows, as I have seen online comments of people struggling to run it. But on my old Vista 32 bit laptop and my XP 32 bit desktop, the Cart version runs smoothly.

I haven't put any car sets in as yet but I'll have a look at that before long. I've put some sound files in, not sure if they are your sounds though jgf? If I remember another car engine sound, and sounds of passing engines, whilst you are stationary in the pits.

Also some of Pavel's fantastic track upgrades and of course the missing tracks like Indy and Miami street circuit. Along with Watkins Glen, St Jovite, Sears PT and Mosport.

Also an upgrade to the pit crew too, which looks not too bad 😁😁

ICR2 was the first real sim that I got into after I bought my first PC. A friend introduced me to Nascar/Nascar 2 around the same time, but the heavier cars and mostly oval tracks didn't impress me much. I remember driving a lot of laps at Detroit in ICR 2 to learn how the cars handled, and how to make adjustments to the setups. Great fun. And like you TP I can still run it on DOSBox.

Some of the extra tracks, I've got for Icr2/Cart, are converted from GPL so that's good for me.
A massive applause as got to go to Pavel for all his work on Icr2 back in the day πŸ‘πŸ™ŒπŸ‘πŸ™Œ

I have NASCAR Racing 1 on Dosbox too. Because I didn't play all the games, first time round (aka GPL too) I'm loving it, having a ball and it's like a new open candy box to me. I didn't get to PC gaming until about 1999/2000 so discovery of classic Sims makes my day 😁😁😁😁😁

Don't get your panties in a twist if it take a little longer than three weeks ... in the UK, the US .... or anywhere.

Until a couple of years ago there was still an active ICR2 community at CARTRacingHQ.  Dozens of new tracks (not conversions), new 3D models for the cars (from '70s through 2000's), new cockpits with analog gauges or alternate digital panels, etc.  Sadly, after all these years, the site was taken down.  Part of the site and some of the downloads survive at https://www.icr2.net/index.html

Probably the most ambitious mod was for LMP cars at Marc Nelson's "The Sim Project" site.  Plagued by graphics problems and waning interest it was, to my knowledge, never completed (Marc can still be found in the MS Train Sim community), but we had a lot of fun with it.

Among my useless archives is the original Rendition version of ICR2 which came bundled with a Canopus Total3D vid card (and buried around here somewhere is an old Sierra Screamin' 3D Rendition card).  Gad, the junk we keep.

I've been visiting cart HQ of late and there are still some archive files. Unfortunately some of the links to other sites are dead ☹️ Real shame.

Apologies Saiph for hijacking your thread on Covid UK and talking about ICR.

I really don't know when this is all going to end. I feel though it's going to be a long time until we are back to some so called normality or pre Covid. I agree we've just got to wait no matter what and hang in there. I know we will not only appreciate things when we eventually exit, but we will have also learned a lot of lessons in mankind.

Stay safe everybody πŸ™

No problem. I only made the first post to put a smile on peoples' faces. I was talking to some friends on FaceBook and one of them wondered what they were going to do with another three weeks of spare time. So I suggested bouncing a baseball off the walls like Steve McQueen in The Great Escape. It seemed to work for him! :D

Thanks Saiph. Does feel a little bit like the great escape πŸ˜‚πŸ‘

I've got lots of friends who are going stare crazy and suffering now from cabin fever.

Let's hope the tunnels, Tom, Dick and Harry get finished pretty soon πŸ€πŸ˜‚

I lean more towards cutting the heads off parking meters like Paul Newman in "Cool Hand Luke"

That's amazing. Thanks for sharing that Ginetto. I couldn't believe the part where he jumps his bike onto another upside-down bike, with his tyres standing on the other bikes' tyres. I had to rewind that bit and see if there was any camera trickery!
