As the title says.  My first time trying to drive online.  I know, right?!

Calling on Bob Simpson for some advice.

When going to the Multiplayer screen and having the Join button clicked, I am unable to enter anything next to IP Address:
There is no entry I-beam or acceptance of character input.

Any ideas what my issue might be, Bob?

hi Greg.. first, Bob is the one to ask,  but maybe you'd like someone to guess before tomorrow AM
that would be me ~
i THINK, #1  you need to ADD the IP you want to join (see the options below the large white area.. RENAME - ADD - DELETE)
then it should show in the area you are trying to enter it in.

the area marked "what is this" again, i'm guessing is your IP ...  but i don't think it important, just the one you want to join is.

Greg, you mean that you can not write your IP in the filed:
IP ADDRESS -> titeld by you "Unable to enter IP"?

That is strange.
I never had that problem.

The IP above is your own IP.
Normally you just enter your IP below in the field "IP ADDRESS"

Guessing this is to set up a private session...not VROC or iGOR?

(Haven't raced on VROC actually).

iGOR, configured during GEM+/IGOR install, is down for repair atm but when on-line it is a few easy no entries required clicks to get on an open track. (No need for multi-player screen, just click desktop icon or iGOR.exe).

Greg this happened to me last Sunday when I wanted to host a 69X race...

I took a backupped working core.ini and replaced the actual with it and all worked fine afterwards

Yes, I thought that, too.  But, I am unable to enter anything in that box.

Axel, would you please U/L your working core.ini file here?  I'll give that one a try.  

EDIT:  To be clear, I may have deleted a necessary file for online driving.

I suspected the 4gb-patch, as I had run it some days before.  Core.ini.txt   5.66K   1 downloads

Axel, do you mean that you suspect that the 4GB Patch might be interfering with me getting online?  I do patch all of my exe files with it.

I have no proove, as I patched my server + my client PC gpl.exe for the first time...
When I wanted to host/join via multiplayer, it did not work as in your case.

When it happened I asked myself: what have I changed last?

I deleted all the exes and took a virgin gpl.exe + the core.ini and all was fine.

Axel, okay, I will try using an un-patched with 4GB version of gpl.exe. - That did not change anything.  
I used your core.ini ... with no difference for me.

EDIT:  To get an IP address into the box below Connect Via TCP/IP ... I must first enter and IP in the Address Book using Add ... correct?
If so, then I cannot make an entry in that Address Book box.

I think it’s the opposite. Normally you put the address on the left in “IP address” then hit add to put it into your address book.

Once you have an entry in the address book you just click on it and I think it appears in the IP address line.

Sounds more to like your cursor just isn’t showing. Try hitting tab and type something in and see if eventually you can enter numbers in that line.

I don’t know very much about multiplayer functions

When there is an IP adress allready shown, you must first delete/edit it with the <-  from the rear end!

Can you try to test wiith direct3DV2 wich shows a cursor?

Ahhhh.  Tried hitting tab and typing with no results.  My laptop frowned at me for the abuse.

Axel - There is no IP Address shown.  The Multiplayer screen continues to look like the image in my first post.

There is an ini file that holds the address book - server.ini?? Or address.ini?? You should be able to enter the address there, then click on it in the multiplayer menu to put it into the IP address line.

I’m not near a computer the weekend, so I can’t verify which exact file names they are.

The cursor may be invisible with some rasterizers. But the text input works, just click the field and start typing. The letters should show up once entered.

Bob, when I enter an IP address into either address.ini or server.ini that address does not appear on the Multiplayer screen .... also, when I exit GPL and look at the contents of those ini files, they are blank again.  

Michkov, I tried what you mention about typing "in the blind", but, still there is no text input appearing.

Eureka!!!  I was missing an address.ini file with a valid server IP address and other data.  ginetto, sent me his ... and it is working, now!  

Maybe see you online soon.  I'll be the slowly moving mobile chicane.
