From the 156 Sharknose to the Porsche 917's and the Silver Arrows in-between... I'm lost for words. It's like a vision of GPL paradise being preached by the GPL priests :D

Thank you. It's keeping them that way when converted to GPL that has been the high hurdle. These have to be low polygon count cars or else ol' GPL crashes.

The Polygon Cruncher program from MooTools work really well.

I will have a look at that. Thanks!  Fwiw, the 3ds files exported as ase are as low as we can go without corruption taking place somewhere... The issue seems to be the conversion from ase to gpl 3do's :(

Wow! They look fantastic.

Just catching up after a holiday and properly checking this. Not just the Facebook page but the clickable list on the website
http://historicracin...ct=367&mid=2985

Lots of hints at possible future mods. Would love to see many of these cars in gpl, as part of fully formed mod releases.
Understand the effort involved, so not getting too excited just yet.

Thanks. It's not vaporware but it still not GPL worthy atm either. With the cat out of the bag I'll do my best to keep up my end of the chat on how things are progressing. It's only been thirteen years, right ?  and we've gotten a "fair" percent into finished mods when many thought it could not be done. So anything is possible over the next year.  Bob

Just always thought it was cruel to post here when there was still a lot of work to do once the little buggers were actually working in game.

Not to bring you down, but models are easy. Physics are the hard part and I for one have no interest of running reskinned versions of the current mods

Yes Bob, it is a little cruel, but given where GPL is in it's grand lifecycle, I think it's valuable to see potential for the future.  Die hard GPL supporters know we need to be patient (and very grateful) for the quality work we get for free.

I can really understand that point of view (even though I'm looking at doing one soon).  A re-skinned car set  can add a bit of fun in between the wait for full mods.

Also releasing (random) single cars, as you see with other sims,  doesn't work for me.  Much prefer the GPL "fully formed" mod approach.

I would say the carset is the most time consuming and difficult part of a good well made GPL mod.

Keep on it Bob
