Legends Of Gpl ModGPL MOD
The mod includes one car from each of the nine major mods plus one car as a graphics demonstration. It is a gift to the GPL community on GPL's 20th anniversary. The mod is also a tribute to the original Papyrus team that developed GPL back in 1998 and the many modders, too numerous to mention, who have kept this racing simulation alive and vibrant for the last 20 years. Thanks to all the talented people who created GPL and the mods that made the Legends of GPL mod possible.
The included cars are the championship driver's car from each the of the mod years.
1. 1955 Mercedes W196
2. 1965 Lotus 33
3. 1966 Brabham BT19
4. 1966 Lola T70 MkII CanAm
5. 1967 Brabham BT24
6. 1967 Lotus 49--uses original 1998 Papyrus graphics
7. 1967 Matra MS5 F2
8. 1967 Ferrari 330/P4
9. 1969 Matra MS80
10. 1971 McLaren M8F CanAm
Most of the cars use updated graphics; however, the physics are the same as used for each car in its original mod. So the '55 Mercedes W196 uses its car graphics and physics from the '55 F1 Mod, .etc.
As a special treat, the iconic '67 Lotus 49 is added. It uses the original 1998 Papyrus graphics which is a real eyesore now, but dramatically demonstrates how far car graphics have improved in the last 20 years.
The mod uses a special patch to ensure that each car's physics is the same as its original mod. Each car performs and feels the same as it always has. The '55 Mod Mercedes W196 has player brake fade, but the other cars do not.
The mod was quickly put together in only three months by a very small group of the normal mod team members. As such, it hasn't gone through the rigorous testing that our major mods had before release. It works very well for the offline player versus the AI; however, no online testing was done.
Be sure to read the Installation Notes before installing the mod. The mod includes a simple automatic installer program, but definitely read its Read Me before using it. You can do a manual installation instead of using the automatic installer if desired.
The mod has its own website, courtesy of Stefan Roess, so visit it to read more about the mod and get the download link:
